For weeks Samantha helps me sneak out of the cell at night. They keep the other Avengers somewhere else. According to Samantha, down the hall take two lefts and a right head up the stairs and then it's the first door on the right. I master the abilities my father gave me when I was a girl. Every ounce of evil running through me to throw right back in his face. Maybe that makes me an ungrateful little bitch...If that's the case then let it burn.
Again I hit the target, over and over and over. My anger becoming my source. Sam and I have figured out at least two things. I can freeze everything I set my hands on, beyond that, I can make shards of ice on my own. Something that could be sharper than a knife flying in the air, practically indodgable.
Freeze water. Freeze rain. Freeze liquid glass. Freeze gas. Freeze the blood in someone's veins. Stop there heart.
The second thing, besides not feeling the cold, is that I can almost always just end up messing with water without freezing it.
I should be worried. I should stop. Samantha tells me not to push it the way I do, but if any of us are going to get out of here it's what I have to do. Whatever they're doing to my family, it's keeping them at bay. They would've called for help or found a way to break out by now.
Samantha emerges from one of the dark corners of the training room, slow clapping. "Good job Becca" she says with a smile. I give her a small one in return, taking the leather gloves off my hands. A barrier to keep me from freezing myself over. Keeping it only to my hands.
"It's time Sam" I tell her, but she pauses. Hesitant.
"I don't know Becca. You know how to use your powers, but it's not like you know how to fight or anything."
"Oh really?" I ask raising an eyebrow. She raises hers and then signals for me to come at her.
She doesn't seem to expect me to sprint right at her, but before I can get there she seems to snap back. She throws one of her arms, but despite my frontal assault im not looking for force straight on. Sliding to the ground I slide to the side of her kicking my foot out. She falls with a heavy thud onto the tile ground. Standing back up I stand over a groaning Samantha. Holding out a finger I make a little gun, fake shooting her.
"Tell me again how I can't fight?" I say, holding out one of my arms to help her stand back up. She takes it gratefully, with an annoyed sigh.
After a small pause she looks at me ""Where did you learn to fight like that?" She asks, genuinely curious. I look down.
Something I wouldn't have ever, and won't ever tell the Avengers crosses my mind. Something that makes me the villain of this story. Something evil, something that doesn't make me cringe anymore. Perhaps that does scare me a bit. "After Seb died and then my mom, there was this in between time. No one really realized my mom died. I buried her myself." I say, and when I look up I expect to see judgment on Samantha's face, but all I see is kindness. "I gave her the funeral we could never afford. Since we didn't have a funeral no one really realized that she was gone. I had to earn money somehow." I say, stopping there.
"What did you do?" She asks
"Look, it's not a time I'm proud of."
"It's alright Becca, this is what friends are for."
"You've been my friend for two weeks...why do you trust me anyway?" I ask, and then rethink my question "Why should I trust you."
"Becca" She says looking weary "You're dad would kill us both if he knew. I swear you can trust me." At first I tell myself that's what someone who is lying would say, but then I look at her a little closer. She isn't lying.
