"Finn!" Pia shouted from the living room. She hopped around on one foot as she struggled to get her sneaker on. I stood back, trying to stay out of the way—which was not easy for a big guy in a small cabin.

We had woken up late this morning and I don't think I'd ever seen Pia shoot out of bed so quickly. I barely opened my eyes and she already had a toothbrush hanging out of her mouth and was mumbling erratically about coffee.

"Bambi?" I said as softly as I could. Pia was a bear that I didn't need to poke. "Can I help?"

"No, I'm almost ready for work I just need to find my freaking purse," she replied without looking at me. "Not to mention," Pia added in a shout, "if Finn would hurry up and come downstairs!"

"Okay, I'm on it!" I called as I jogged up the stairs.

I went into Finn's room to find him laying on his bed with an action figure in his hand. "Hi Tylewr," he said distractedly as he made the action figure fly around his head.

"Dude," I sighed. "You're killing me. Have you heard your aunty? You are going to your grandparents today and you aren't even dressed yet."

Finn looked down at his pyjamas as though it was news to him that he wasn't ready. I ran to his drawers and grabbed the first clothes I saw and threw them at him. "Get dressed while I pack your bag."

I grabbed random toys and changes of clothes like I'd seen Pia do before and shoved them into the small backpack that Finn brought with him everywhere. When I turned around my eyebrows shot up from the outfit I'd put together.

Finn stood proudly waiting for me with a huge grin as he looked at his outfit. The blue Hawaiian shirt covered in bright red flowers definitely did not match the shorts with yellow ducks on them. One sock was purple and went up to his knee, while the other one was around his ankle and had orange stripes.

"I love it!" Finn giggled.

"Works for me," I shrugged and tossed him his bag.

He was walking too slow out of his room so I picked him up and tossed him over my shoulder. Big belly laughs flew out of Finn as he bounced upside down while I ran down the stairs.

"One kid," I reported as I dropped Finn in front of Pia, "ready to go."

Pia fought a smile as she looked Finn up and down. "Your grandma is going to love this outfit."

"I know!" Finn laughed.

I grimaced a silent apology to Pia but my mistake seemed to brighten her mood. She grabbed Finn's hand and was about to race out the door when it flew open.

"Boy's day!" Scotty boomed as he walked in flicking a toothpick between his teeth.

"Hell yeah, buddy," I grinned.

"Do I even want to know what boy's day entails?" Pia asked as she pulled Finn to the door. She patted Scotty's arm in a rushed greeting as he strode toward me.

"Brews and burgers," Scotty shot over his shoulder as he rubbed his hands together. "We're going to see what O'Hara has to offer."

"Boy's day?" Finn asked as he planted his feet and looked back at us. Scotty and I froze and turned toward our kryptonite. "But I'm a boy?"

"Oh, kid," Pia soothed quickly, "It's a, uh, big boy day?" That didn't seem to help when Finn pouted toward us. His round eyes jumped between Scotty and me as genuine pain wobbled his bottom lip.

"Don't you want to go to your grandparents?" Pia tried again. "They are expecting you like... right now."

"But..." Finn whispered, "I wanna stay with Tylewr and Scotty. I'm you fwend wight? I wanna go to boy's day."
