I woke up in the place I dreaded the most...The Hospital... In a blinding white room with an annoying beeping machine to my side and of course an IV sticking into my elbow crease. I took at my surroundings and I noticed something, or someone, I didn't notice earlier... Liam... he was sitting in the chair, his head resting in his hands and his arms were resting against his knees. What's he doing here? Does he know?

My mind started running a mile a minute. My heart monitor started to show that I was working myself up. Liam snapped his head up, eyes wide. I tried to stand up and get out of bed.

"N-no No. No!! Lay Down Sofia." Liam exclaimed as he came rushing to the side of the bed putting a hand on my shoulder to get me to lay back down. A wave of tiredness came over me and I didn't argue.

"What are you doing here?" I asked.

"I was worried, so I came over right after school." He replied with a slight blush on his cheeks as he smiled.

"But why? You barely know anything about me." I asked.

"I don't know." He said shyly, "Ever since I almost hit you with my bike, I've felt the need to protect you. You've been on my mind all day. I'm very fond of you I guess."

I was shocked but smiled and reached and grabbed his hand. "That's sweet of you, but I'm not really looking for a relationship. I just got out of one and I don't think you and I would work out. Well, not you but me." I said, trying to let him down easily.

He looked away slightly disappointed. "It's ok, can we be friends at least?" He asked with a hopeful look in his eyes.

I smiled and nodded, "I'd like that."

The doctor walked in after I had answered. "Hello Sofia, it's nice to see you awake. I need to talk to you," he paused, looking at Liam, "It's a bit urgent." The doctor said in a serious voice.

"Uh should I wait outside?" Liam asked.

"Yeah can you please?" I asked. He nodded and walked out.

"So, what is it this time Doctor Delmer?" I asked, wanting to get this over with.

"I'm sorry but I have some bad news." He said with a grim tone, "your heart is getting weaker and weaker as the days go by. The only solution is a heart transplant but unfortunately we haven't found a donor that's a match."

I looked away from the doctor looking down at my hands that were resting in my lap. "Thanks for letting me know. Can I ask you a favor please?" He nodded his head as a reply. "Can we keep this between the two of us please?" I asked as I finally looked up from my lap.

"Sure, but don't you think your boyfriend should know?" he asked

"I don't have a boyfriend, he's just a friend." I said while playing with my hair.

He nodded his head, "Well it's up to you. If you want it to stay confidential it will."

"Thank you so much Doctor Delmer." I said with a smile.

Just then Liam entered the room, "Sorry I just came to grab my phone."

"Oh, you're leaving?" I was a bit disappointed. "We are done talking, you don't have leave."

"Are you sure?" Liam asked.

"Yes, please stay a while?" I asked, begging a little.

He just smiled and grabbed a chair and brought it over to sit next to my bed.

Doctor Delmer smiled and walked towards the door before I stopped him once again. "Wait Doctor uh do you know when I will be able to go home?" I asked, wanting to get out of here as soon as possible.

"Well let's see how you do tonight and then we'll see tomorrow morning." He said.

"Alright thanks Doctor." I said with a fake smile. As soon as he left, I yelled out, "I HATE THIS PLACE!!!!"

Liam chuckled before he replied, "Calm down Cupcake." trying to calm me down.

"What did you just call me?" I asked with a serious tone.

"I'm sorry I said it without thinking." He said nervously looking down blushing.

I really couldn't be mad. It was kind of cute. "It's ok. I'm not mad." I said with a smile, "It's ok, it caught me off guard that's all. Just don't get the wrong idea, we're just friends."

He smiled and reached for my hand to give it a squeeze as he said, "I know and I wouldn't do anything to make you uncomfortable or ruin a friendship that hasn't even started yet."

And then I knew this was the start of a great new friendship.
