PONYBOY'S POV:
I woke up before Sodapop and Gabby, so I decided to go make breakfast for me, Soda, Darry, and Gabby. I walked into the kitchen to cook some eggs, when I saw Darry had beat me to it. "Mornin' Pony", he exclaimed. I replied with a tired-sounding, "Mornin' Dar". "Ya ready for the first day, Pony?" He asked me, and I replied, "not even the slightest. It's stressful and I'd much rather be a drop out like Soda..". "DONT YOU BE SAYIN THAT!", Darry hollered.
I'm almost positive he hollered too loud, because Gabby came out of our room with an annoyed expression on her face. "Ay yo grumpy gorilla. How about you don't scream at 6:45 in the morning. That'd be nice..".
Gabby was almost always grumpy in the morning. Especially when someone wakes her up. She loves sleeping so when someone wakes her, it automatically puts her into a bad mood.
"Shortie don't tell me what to do. Now you 'ought go wake Soda so he ain't late for the DX", Darry said to Gabby. Gabby answered, "If it'll shut ya up I'll do it gladly", she rolled her eyes and walked to our room to wake Soda.
GABRIELLA'S POV:
I used to love the first day of school. It used to be one of my favorite things. But once Soda dropped out, the magic of the first day of school went away. Our parents used to dress Soda, Darry, Pony, and I up in cute outfits for the first day when we were younger. But this year's different. It was the first year that Soda won't be at school, not only that, it's the first time we've had the first day of school without mom and dad.
Ever since we were little, Soda and I have done everything together. We were always in the same class at school, we went everywhere together, we always shared rooms, we were inseparable. So when he dropped out, it was really hard on both of us. We always sat together on the bus, so I wasn't ready for today. I have other friends, I have a boyfriend named Harry as well, but among all of them, Sodapop has, and will always be, my best friend.
So you can imagine why I would be in a bad mood today. But to make it even worse, I woke up to Darry hollering at Pony and he was pissin' me off right when I came out of my room. So today will not be a good day.
I walked into our room and walked over to Soda. I rubbed his shoulder and said, "Soda ya gotta wake up. Your workin' the DX today". Soda sat up and gave me a half smile. He asked, "so Gabs. Ya ready for today?". Part of me knew that he knew I was sad he wasn't with me at school anymore. I didn't want him to know I was sad because it may make him feel bad, so I replied with, "yea. Darry was just being a pest".
Sodapop chuckled, and we both walked out to the kitchen.
