The Virus

Chapter 1

Vic's POV

I hear my alarm going and roll over to turn it off. I sit up and realise Luke isn't in bed but that's when I hear the shower. I started to not feel well, my stomach and head hurt. I ignore it and start to get ready for work. As I was trying to pick out clothes Luke came out of the shower.

"Good morning Eggy" said Luke "Good morning" said Vic quietly.

Luke turned around and looked at Vic and saw that she looked a little flushed. "Babe are you ok, you don't look good" said Luke concerned. " Yeah I just have a little headache, I'll be fine" Vic said trying to sound convincing. "Are you sure?" Luke said as he walked over and put his hand on Vic's forehead, " You feel a little warm, maybe you should stay home" " I promise I'm fine, now come on we're gonna be late" said Vic. The couple finished getting ready and then headed to work.

When I got to the station I started to feel a little worse. My head was pounding and my throat started feeling weird. I stopped by the beanery to get some tylenol before the rest of the team came in. "Hey Hughes" said Dean as he startled me "Oh hey Miller" I said quietly as my throat was hurting " Are you ok, what's the tylenol for?" said Dean " Just a headache I'm good, I'm gonna go get changed" I said as I walked out of the beanery. Dean stared at Vic for a second before continuing to make his coffee.

I got changed into my uniform and was standing at my locker when I started having a coughing fit.

"Are you ok" I turned around to see Travis standing at the door of the locker room.

"Yeah I'm fine, just choked a little" I said trying to sound convincing while also sounding a little hoarse. "Yeah ok, choked on what? I don't see any water around" said Travis " Oh like you never just choked out of nowhere on your spit" I said and then started coughing again but this time sounding a little more serious. " Vic come on you're obviously sick, why don't you go home" asked Travis concerned " Because I'm not gonna go home over a little cough and headache, I can toughen this out don't worry Trav" I said and went back to getting ready for shift. "Ok but if you start feeling worse don't hesitate to ask Sullivan to go home" said Travis " Yeah ok" I said " Oh and also keep your distance this shift" said Travis as he put a big glob of hand sanitizer on " Shut up" said Vic as they both made their way to the beanery.

" Good morning guys!" said Andy as Travis and Vic walked into the beanery. " Good morning" they both say. Travis goes to make him and Vic coffee. Vic sat down and laid her head down in her hand. " Vic are you ok, you don't look good" said Jack "Thanks" I laughed "No I meant you don't look well" said Jack " Yeah is your headache still there" said Dean " Yeah but it's getting better" I said but I was lying it was actually getting a bit worse. " Vic you want something to eat" asked Maya " No thanks, I'm not hungry" I said and it was true my stomach was still hurting but I didn't want to worry them more than they already seemed, especially Travis. 

" Good morning 19, I have an announcement" said Sullivan as he poured his coffee. " Cutler is out sick for the next two days so I need someone to cover him on B shift, any volunteers?" Sullivan said. We all stayed silent and then Sullivan finally said "Miller you're up" he said and Miller groaned in annoyance at having to be on B shift." Have fun Miller" Jack laughed and the rest of us joined in. Miller rolled his eyes "Alright, fifteen minutes until shifts starts, and if anyone starts feeling sick you need to go straight home, I don't want this going around the station. Is that clear?" said Sullivan "Yes captain" said the whole team. I felt Travis looking over at me but I gave him a 'mind your business' glare and he continued eating his food. After breakfast, we started chores and then we heard the infamous "AID CAR 19, LADDER 19" over the loudspeaker and we all went off on our call. The call took about an hour. It was at a school, there was a small fire in the cafeteria but thankfully no one was hurt. When we got back to the staton the rest of the team went into the lounge to play some foosball.

" Let's get back to our game from yesterday, I'm gonna kick your ass Herrera" said Gibson " Yeah we'll see about that, Hughes you coming?" said Herrera " Yeah, I'll be there in a minute I'm just gonna get some water" I said as I walked into the beanery and Andy, Jack, Travis, and Dean headed to the lounge. I watched to make sure no one was there and started coughing again as I sat down and put my head in my hands not feeling well at all. " Vic, are you ok" said Maya. My head shot up and looked at her as she sat next to me. " Yeah I'm fi-" I began to say but got interrupted by a sneeze. "Bless you Vic" said Maya " Thanks" I said as I sniffled.

Maya then felt my forehead " Vic you're burning up" said Maya worried. "It's no big deal, I'm fine Maya" I said trying my best to sound convincing even though I felt like crap " Do you want me to call Ripley to come take you home?" asked Maya " No!" I said quickly " Why not?". I didn't answer her, instead I just put my head back down. I heard Maya get up and then a minute later I heard her come back with the thermometer and she took my temperature." 102.2 that's pretty high Vic you should go home you heard Sullivan, he doesn't want a virus going around the station" said Maya " Yeah but Maya... I just can't go home, it just reminds me of whenever I used to be sick as a child and wanting my parents and them not being there" I said almost in tears.

" Oh Vic" said Maya as she gave me a side hug " How about you just go sleep it off in your bunk, I'll cover for you and then you can try and get better" Maya said as she held out her hand " Ok fine but don't tell Sullivan" I said " I promise, now come on" said Maya as she helped me up. We made our way to my bunk without anyone noticing as they were too busy playing foosball. I laid down on my bed and tried to fall asleep but the headache was still there so I asked Maya to bring me some more Tylenol. After about 15 minutes I finally fell asleep, only to be woken up by a wave of nausea. I ran straight to the bathroom and threw up.

" Vic are you ok" Andy said as she ran over to her " I-" I was about to speak but then I threw up again. I also heard Maya run into the bathroom " Vic you need to go home, I'm calling Ripley" said Maya " Fine" I said upset not because I just threw up but because I was upset that I had to go home. " Here you go" Andy said as she handed me a glass of water and a washcloth. She felt my forehead as well and made the same comments as Maya did earlier. " Ripley should be here in about a half hour, he's in a meeting" said Maya " Come on let's get you back to your bunk" said Andy as her and Maya helped me up and walked me back to my bunk slowly as I was little dizzy. I laid back down and tried to fall back asleep until my hubby got here. I woke up about thirty minutes later as I felt someone gently rub my arm to wake me up. " Hi eggy" said Luke " Hi' I said weakly " I knew you weren't feeling well this morning" he said jokingly " Shut up and take me home" I said a little bit annoyed "Ok baby" he said as he helped me up and walked me to his car.

When we got home, I changed into some pjs and got into bed. I started coughing some more so Luke went to make me some tea. I was laying in bed when Luke walked back into the room handing me my tea. " So why did it take you so long to finally come home?" Luke asked as he checked my temperature again " I guess I thought it was gonna be the same as when I was a kid, I mean my grandma was there and she took care of me but it wasn't the same as having my own parents" I said as I drank some of the tea " I didn't want to be alone" I said. " Baby you wouldn't have been alone, I'm here" said Luke " But you were working, I didn't want to take you away from that because of some cold or whatever this is" I said sniffling " Vic, it's just a job you're way more important then some job. If you need me I will be here especially when you're sick, I will make it my mission to make you feel better" Luke said as he smiled " I love you Victoria Hughes" said Luke as he tried to kiss me. I stopped him " Ahh what if you get sick, I could be contagious" I said " Oh you already are" he said as he kissed me " Do you want me to make you some soup?" asked Luke " No stay" I said, making a grabbing motion with my hands. He took off his shoes still in his uniform and got in bed with me and put his arm around my back and pulled me in. " I love you too Lucas Ripley" I said as I yawned " Go to sleep baby" he said as he kissed my forehead and I fell asleep.

A/N I wasn't too sure I wanted to write this but I decided to give it a go, I hope you like it. I don't know when the next chapter will be out but hopefully it will be soon.
