Travis POV
It's been a couple of weeks since I've gotten sick. I feel like everytime I'm getting better I go right back downhill. It's now 4 weeks later and I wake up feeling better once again. My body doesn't hurt anymore, I was able to keep food and water down for a couple of days. I think I'm ready to go back to work. I start to get ready for work when my head starts throbbing. I ignore it and continue getting ready for work. My head is continuing to get worse and I start sweating a ton. I decided to check my temperature again just in case and it was 101.2°. "Shit, I was this close" I said frustrated after seeing the thermometer.
I text Vic telling her I spiked another fever and that I still can't come in and make my way to the bathroom to take some more medicine and then back to bed. A couple hours later, I woke up feeling incredibly worse. I'm covered in sweat, freezing my ass off, and so dizzy. I tried to get up to grab another blanket stumbling through the room when I heard someone knocking on the door. "Coming" I tried to yell out as I made my way to the front door. When I reached the front door my head started spinning so fast I was seeing stars. That's the last thing I remember before falling to the floor jerking.
I woke up to Vic sitting by my side holding my hand. I hear her say "I'm sorry I put you here". " I shouldn't have gone to your house" I said weakly, grabbing her hand. She looked up at me and was so excited to see me. I was confused as to what happened but Dr. Hunt came and told me and also explained that I was gonna be admitted to try and bring my fever down. A few hours later, Vic went to update the team and the nurses came to move me up to my room. I sat there bored. It was a few more hours later before Vic came back in with some water.
"Hey, how ya feeling?" she asked "A little better, how're you doing?" I said "Ok" she said a little quietly "Come here" I said patting the side of the bed "What's wrong?" I asked "It's just I feel bad putting you in here, I never should of came to work sick and now half the station has caught it too, and you're in the hospital after having a freaking seizure" Vic said very fast taking quicker breaths with each word "Hey Vic, breathe, calm down and breathe" I said taking her hand "Are you ok now" I asked " Yeah" she said taking deep breaths "You didn't put me in here Vic, I promise ok" I said putting my hand on her shoulder "But I-" she said before I stopped her "YOU DIDN'T PUT ME HERE" I said sternly looking her straight in the eye "Ok" she said before hugging me. She stayed for a couple of hours and we watched some trash TV before Ripley came and picked her up. After a nurse came in for like the thousandth time to check my vitals, I finally fell asleep for the night. I was finally starting to feel better.
Vic's POV
The next day, I went to visit Travis before work. He was scheduled to be discharged today. I decided to surprise him and bring him a blueberry muffin from our favorite bakery. I then went to the hospital to find Travis still sleeping. I walked over to him and set the muffin down and wrote him a note for when he woke up. I then gave him a kiss goodbye on his forehead cause I was late for work and didn't want to disturb him. He needed the rest after being sick that long. When I got to the station, I hurried into the locker room to change and then went to the beanery where everyone was talking.
"Morning Hughes" said Sullivan "Morning sir, I'm sorry for being late I was visiting Travis and lost track of time and-" I rambled on "No worries Hughes, it's all good" Sullivan said as he kissed Andy and headed back to his office "How's Maya?" I asked "She's ok I think, I'm gonna go over later today to check on her and Carina" Andy said getting up to put away her dishes "And how's this little one?" I asked rubbing Andy's stomach "Fine, although making me very tired and sick all the time" Andy said. "Alright 19! Chores" we all heard Sullivan yell from across the station. We all went about our chores. It was actually a pretty chill day, just a couple of aid car calls which were for me and Gibson. I was kind of glad though, I needed something to distract my mind from the fact that my best friend is in the hospital.
"You ok Hughes?" I heard Jack say as we got out of the aid car "Yeah fine ,just can't wait for shift to be over" I said "Same" Jack said. A half hour later, shift was finally over and I made my way over to the hospital to see Travis before he was discharged. When I got to his room he was sitting up talking to Dr. Hunt about his discharge instructions. "Make sure you stay hydrated and take the medicine morning and night for 2 weeks. And schedule a follow up appointment in 4 weeks to see how you're doing" said Dr. Hunt "I got it doc, thanks" said Travis "A nurse will be in in a few minutes to take out your IV and I'll go start your discharge papers" said Dr. Hunt as he left the room.
"Hey, you look so much better" I said "Thanks and thanks for the muffin this morning" Travis said. I went over and sat on the bed. "I'm glad you're doing well, you scared me, I don't know what I'd do without you Trav" I said tears welling up in my eyes "I don't know what I'd do without you too" he said before hugging me "I'm glad you have Ripley, he makes you really happy" said Travis "He does, and someday you will find someone else who made you feel the same way Micheal did" I said "I doubt it, but it would be nice to try and find that feeling again" said Travis "You deserve to be happy Travis, Micheal would want that, he would want you to find another person" I said taking his hands "I already did" Travis said looking at me smiling "I love you Vic" he said "I love you too Trav" I said and we hugged. Just then I heard my phone ringing. "It's Lucas, I gotta take this, be right back" I said walking out of the room and seeing a nurse walk into the room.
I was on the phone with Lucas for about five minutes when I heard monitors going off. I ignored it thinking it was another patient but then I saw Dr. Hunt running into Travis' room. I dropped my phone and ran to his room. I caught the sight of him seizing. His whole body jerking and locking up, he couldn't control it. "Two of lorazepam" I heard Dr. Hunt yell. After a minute, he finally stopped seizing but then I broke down as I heard the heart breaking sound of the monitor flatling. I saw as Dr. Hunt got on top of him performing CPR and the nurses getting the paddles "CHARGE TO 300!, CLEAR!" I heard as they shocked him. "No rhythm, AGAIN 300!, CLEAR!" he said and they shocked him again.
Then it happened, a sound I will never forget. The long sound of the monitor flatling. Everyone looked around as Dr. Hunt tried to continue CPR but ultimately ended up stopping. I just stared into space as I couldn't believe what was happening.
My best friend, my other half, my person was gone. "Time of death, 18:20"...
A/N: What's next for Vic??? Hi, once again please don't kill me! I appreciate all the votes on my story. I cannot thank you all enough. Stay safe! See you next chapter!
