The Virus

Chapter 3

Maya's POV

There was 30 minutes before shift ended. I was sitting in the lounge watching TV with Ben when I heard my phone buzz. I took out my phone and saw that I had two missed calls from Carina. I was about to call her back when she texted me telling me that she wasn't feeling well and that she wanted to know if I could pick her up after my shift. I told her yes and went to start getting ready to go home.

" Hey everything ok" asked Ben when he saw me leave "Umm not really, Carina just texted saying she doesn't feel good and she wants me to pick her up" I said running my hands through my hair "Well tell her I hope she feels better" said Ben "Thanks see you later, good night" I said walking out of the lounge " Goodnight Bishop" said Ben as he turned back around to look at the TV. I went to change out of my uniform when I heard noises coming from Sullivan's office. I ignored it and made my way towards the locker room to get changed. Then I made my way to Sullivan's office to ask him if I could leave a little bit earlier to pick up Carina. I knocked on the door "Excuse me sir" I said "What is it Bishop?" said Sullivan clearly annoyed "I'm sorry if I'm interrupting something but I was wondering if I could leave just a few minutes early to go pick up my girlfriend she works at the hospital and she texted me telling me she's not feeling well" I said nervously "That's fine Bishop, see you tomorrow" said Sullivan "Thank you sir, goodnight" I said and made my way out the station for the night.

I got into my car and headed to the hospital to pick up my sick girlfriend. I parked at the hospital and made my way in to head to Carina's office where she told me to pick her up "Hi I'm here to see Dr. Deluca, she wanted me to pick her up" I said to the nurse at the front desk "And you are?" said the nurse "Maya Bishop, her girlfriend" I said "Ok her office is just down this hall, third door on the right, and feel free to grab some hand sanitizer on the way there's a virus going around the hospital" said the nurse "Thank you, I will" I said and made my way to her office. I thought maybe to mention the virus going around the station but now didn't seem like the right time.

 I walked into Carina's office to see her sitting at her desk with her head in her hands. "Hey beautiful, how are you feeling?" I said closing the door and walking over to her "Like crap" said Carina looking up Maya. She looked incredibly pale but her cheeks were bright red. I put my hand on her forehead as she put her head back on the desk. "You feel a little warm, how about we get you home and into bed?" I said rubbing her arm "Ok" she said. I helped get her stuff and walked her to the car. I felt so bad, she looked miserable. I hope there was something I could do to make her feel better.

 We finally made it home and I helped her into the apartment, changed her into some comfortable pajamas, and into bed. " You need anything babe?" I asked as I pulled a blanket over her "No, I'm just tired" said Carina as she turned to move her hair out of her face "I'll be right back baby" I said as I left out to go get some water, meds, and the thermometer. I walked back into the room to find Carina almost fully asleep. I checked her temperature really quickly trying not to wake her. It was 100.8°, not too bad but definitely a fever. I contemplated whether or not I wanted to wake her up to take some medicine. I didn't want to wake her but I also didn't want her to wake up feeling worse. I decided for her to take the medicine "Carina baby, can you take this for me" I said rubbing her back a little "No" she mumbled still half asleep " Come on, just take this and you can go right back to sleep" I said encouragingly before she finally took the medicine from me and then drank a little bit of water "Thank you baby" I said. She gave me a weak smile before she went back to sleep "Goodnight beautiful, feel better soon" I said as I gave her a kiss on her warm cheek. " Goodnight bella" Carina said quietly but loud enough for me to hear. I turned around and smiled before I went to the kitchen to make myself a salad. Then I went to sit on the couch to eat my salad and watch TV. I heard my phone buzz and saw it was Ben.
