"Hold your fire!" I released the trigger as the Kree fell to the ground, riddled with bullet holes. "Nice work."
"Yeah? Why does the guy named Gunner get stuck throwing rocks?" Gunner questioned.
"'Cause, you're damn good at it. Plus, it's pretty funny," I said the last part rather quietly. "Enemy of my enemy," I said.
"Yeah. Puts things into perspective. He's fighting for a good reason," Mack said.
"For the record, I like Rebel Peacemaker Mack, too. He's sexy," I commented, unable to resist flirting. In my defense, we haven't had any alone time in almost two months and I wasn't a huge fan of flirting in front of our team.
"Oh, is that right?" he replied slyly. Clearly, he missed having alone time too.
"Woah. Two more Kreepers," damn it. "This is our floor now. No Blues allowed."
"Hey, slow down, slow down. We got a long way to go still," he scolded.
"Smile, Черепаха. We did good," I suggested.
"Mm. We got lucky. But now Kasius knows we're still here. They'll be back."
-
"Breathe, relax, aim...slack...squeeze," I instructed, Flint following my instructions and 'firing' the gun.
"What's going on?" Mack asked, coming over.
"Check it out, Big Man. Asya's teaching me to shoot," Flint said.
"One step at a time, hotshot," I said as Mack took the gun from him.
"Hey! Come on. You said it yourself the Blues are gonna come back," he objected.
"And when they do, we'll fight them. Not you," Mack said firmly.
"Look. You've seen what I can do. Alright? I can help," he said.
"We'll deal with it. End of discussion," Mack said firmly.
"Whatever, man," Flint said, disappointed.
"You know he can handle himself," I pointed out. "He's killed before."
"Yeah. But now he's developing a taste for it," Mack said.
"As long as he kills the bad guys," I shrugged.
"He's not a soldier, Shadows. None of these people are," he countered.
"We can teach them," I suggested. "We took this floor."
"And there are dozens more full of people who have no idea how to fight for one another. We need a plan, not a mob," he said.
"Mack. Kasius sent a messenger," a man said, coming out of nowhere.
"Come on," I said, waving him along as we followed the man.
"Alright, everyone, back up! Make room!" Mack said, with people clearing the way for us to see the messenger.
Tess.
"Святой ад," I muttered, stunned.
"No way. Tess?" Flint exclaimed, going over and hugging her.
She didn't respond.
"I thought you were dead," he said.
"I was,"
-
"I fought. And I begged. They dragged me to the Exchange. Knives are cold," Tess said weakly.
"It's okay, Tess. You're safe," Mack assured her.
