I growled, storming out of the base. I just needed to clear my head, get some space.
I walked deep into the city, weaving through people. Before I knew it, I was outside of the city, in the middle of nowhere.
All of a sudden, this black shape started running toward me. By reflex, I sent a wall at it, forcing it backward. I heard something crack, and the figure stood up, pulling off the hood and mask to reveal a teenage girl. "Hoo! Wow. The legendary Umbra. You know, you're much prettier in person," my opponent said.
"And meaner. So I'd stay where you are," I warned.
"It's funny. I have your poster up on my wall. You and Quake, side by side. You're like that, uh...hero...that every little girl wants to be when they grow up. Right beside Snakebite and the Widow," she said.
"Looks like you made a wrong turn along the way," I commented.
"No. I'm just engineered differently. I don't want to be you. I want to beat you," she smirked.
"You can certainly try," I sent another wall and she rolled out of the way, slicing at me with her chakram.
It was her. She was who did this to me.
We went back and forth for a while, her slicing me and I pushed her against a tree. I didn't bother to check if she was alive.
Wouldn't bother me either way.

I felt loopy. The sun was beating down hard on my neck, and my abdomen felt sticky. I pressed my hand against it, pulling back to see it bleeding red.
I'd been shot. But when? Maybe I was cut.
That little bitch did this.
I pressed down, hard, against the wound and kept shuffling on until I came to a quaint little town. I headed into the nearest liquor store, getting some whiskey before getting some fishing line, a hook, and a first-aid kit at an anything-and-everything store. I collapsed in an abandoned structure, pulling my shirt up.
There was a long, deep cut oozing blood along my abdomen. I gritted my teeth, dipping the hook in after attaching some line. Slowly and painfully, I used the line to close the wound before patching it up. I pocketed the line in case I could use it later and drank the whiskey.
Tossing the hook to the ground, I stood up. I knew I had to get medical attention, but I only trusted Simmons for this kind of thing.
Damn it. I have to go back to base.
-
"Hands u--Agent Anatolievna?" one of the guards asked, confused.
"Where's Simmons?" I grunted.
"Sh--she's out on a mission. Let me let you in," he swiped his card, the hanger door sliding open.
"Thank you, Agent..."
"Parkinson. Agent Parkinson," he said.
"Thanks, Parkinson," I clapped him on the shoulder, hurting my wound even more, before shuffling inside.
"Asya! Where have you been, I've been lo--" Mack stopped when he saw the blood seeping into my shirt. "You're bleeding. What happened?"
"Lab now, story later. I gotta patch this wound up," I snapped, going into the lab and grabbing a first-aid kit and a numbing agent.
After properly suturing my wound, I finally addressed Mack. "I went on a walk, got attacked, then came back here," I summarized.
"Who attacked you?" he asked.
"Same bitch that did this to me," I said, gesturing to my arm. I could see his face darken. "Now, I am going to get some sleep," I hoped that would be enough for him to leave me alone, but alas, he kept following.
When he closed the door to the room we shared, I turned around. Best to do this in private.
"You got something to say? 'Cause now's the time to say it," I said, hostile.
"What is going on with you?" he asked.
"Oh, I don't know. Maybe I just got cut in the abdomen," I growled.
"No, this isn't about that. You've been angry with me ever since the accident," he said.
"Because you're babying me!" I exclaimed.
"I do it because I care about you," he objected.
"I care too!" I shouted.
"Then why are you being so cold?" he questioned.
"Because this is the first serious relationship I've been in and I have no idea what I'm supposed to do!" this made him pause.
"I thought you and Trip were serious,"
"I don't know what we were. There wasn't enough time to figure it out. Same with Romanoff. We were confused teenagers trying to find comfort," I mumbled.
"Well, I know what we are. And I know that I'm not letting you suffer if I can help it."
