I close the car door and walk inside with my mom and dad. I see Michael sitting on the coach. I want to talk to him but I know that I'm about to get a beating, so I look back at my mom. She glares at me. I close my eyes,  ready to feel pain everywhere on my body. As my dad steps closer to me, I prepare for the first hit. But it never comes. I open my eyes and see Micheal standing in front of me. He motions me to go upstairs. I hesitate, but he reassures me. I look at him one more time and run upstairs.
Before I close my door, I hear Micheal grunt in pain. I can tell he's trying to stay strong. I lay on my bed trying to block out the sound of Micheal's cries of pain. I hate hearing him like that.
A couple hours later I hear a knock on my door. Then I see Micheal come in. I see the black eye and bruises on his skin.
"Why did you do that?" I ask genuinely confused.
"You might make my life harder but your still my sister." he says.
"I'm sorry I yelled at you. I was just mad and confused. But you and Hannah have the right to be happy." I say with kindness in my voice,  for the first time in awhile.
"Can we start over?" He asks.
"Sure. But are you okay? Should I get you ice?" I say concerned.
"No, I'm okay. You shouldn't go downstairs anyway. Mom and dad are still mad. They'll beat you up, trust me."
He hugs me and I hug him back.
"Get some rest, Bella." He says.
He shuts off my light and closes the door.
I finally feel safe.
