I knew exactly what I was doing when I called Aiden and bragged about Ben wanting my help. Whenever Aiden and I were 'grounded', he makes us sit with him in his office and watch as he uses his big whiteboard and sticky notes and literally makes a big mess on the board trying to find a solution. Sometimes we help him out and it's a lot of fun. He thinks it's a punishment but it's the furthest thing from it. We turn it into a game.
It's not everyday Ben gets super hard and complicated cases but they do happen every once in a while.
I remember just a few weeks ago when Ben grounded me for pushing a big meanie on the park because he pulled my hair first. In my defence he deserved it but let's not go there. He was working on a case where the poor baby had an Ursula in half of her brain. Ursula is what we call a tumour because they're so evil! And easier to remember.
Anyway, I remember sitting in his office with my own whiteboard drawing a brain from the textbook he had on the table. It looked pretty cool but only half of it was visible.
I drew half the brain and showed it to Ben and BOOM I'm suddenly ungrounded because I'm a genius and helped him come up with a very simple solution. I asked him what it was but he said it sounded too grim but I managed to pry it out of him later. He was going to remove half the baby's brain and get rid of Ursula. I don't understand what's so grim about that but then again I'm not your average 4 almost 5 year old.
"Thea, do me a favour and page all the interns. Tell them to meet us in the conference room." Ben asked as she nodded and pulled out her pager.
"You and I young lady are going directly to the conference room." He said as he picked me up once again and carried me away.
"Can you give me a clue on what the case is about?" I asked with a pout.
"You keep your pout to yourself. It's not going to work on me little lady." He said as he pinched my cheek as I rolled my eyes.
"You sit here. You can draw on the whiteboard if you like. I'm going to quickly grab my briefcase from my office." He said as he handed me a bunch of different coloured pens.
I picked up the textbook sat on the desk and saw a body with all the organs visible on the cover of the book.
I picked it up and sat it right next to me so I could see it and draw it at the same time.
"Ahh I knew you'd pick that up." Ben said with a chuckle the second I was done with the outline of the body.
"I think it's coming along very fabulously." I said as I moved my focus back to my drawing.
I picked up a red coloured pen and started drawing the heart. Then the lungs. Then the kidneys. Then I picked up a pink pen and drew the long worm. Then the brain. Then I picked up the green pen and drew the stomach.
I know I might be clever and all but I had to ask Ben what each of the parts where called and he had to write them for me because unlike my drawing, my handwriting isn't very good. Plus, I can't really spell just yet.
"Does that look good Ben?" I asked a so turned around to see a whole audience of people staring at me drawing.
"It looks fabulous hun. Why don't you sit down so we can get started on the case?" He said as I nodded and sat down on the chair right at the head of the table.
"Hey! That's my seat." Richard said with a raised eyebrow as he stood directly in front of me.
"Sorry not sorry Richard. You snooze you lose." I shrugged as I started spinning on the chair.
"Right! All of you sit down." Ben announced.
All the babies started scrambling to grab a seat and sit.
