Alright, the plan is that all I have to do is get Draco to exit the room without alerting the creature currently sleeping that we are here – while also avoiding Filch and his cat. It should be easy enough.
Yeah, it defiantly wasn't going to be as easy as I thought. First, I forgot how much fear and drama is in Draco's personality. I also forgot that, although I am a brave person, I am definitely not a fearless one. So, when I come face to face with a three-headed dog at the age of 11, even though I'm very curious – my first instinct is to run from the danger.
I try to think of a plan; the best I can think of is to make sure Filch is gone while also trying to subtly get Draco out of the room. In theory, this plan should definitely work.
"Hey, Draco. Can you hear Filch or the cat?" I ask, trying to execute this plan. Also, if it can distract Malfoy long enough to get us out without him being suspicious or noticing the dog.
"No, I can't. I think they have walked away." I release a sigh of relief knowing at the very least we won't get caught by an adult. Now I just have to keep him distracted.
"Ok, let's leave then. Like right now!" I try to open the door and push him out, but apparently, I was being too obvious that something is wrong.
"Whoa! What's the rush? What if I am wrong? What if we get c-AGHH" And with that, the plan had failed. Draco had turned around, and then he just had to scream. I grabbed hold of his wrist and opened the door only to drag him out the door and all the way to the common room. He was muttering and mumbling the whole way trying to form a coherent sentence, the entire while I try to calm my breathing and heartbeat.
Eventually when we make it to the opening portrait and enter the common room. I sit Draco on the couch that is closest to the fire and I grab my book of magical creatures off a chair. I flip through the pages to find out what exactly that was. While I do this Draco sits there in the middle of a mental breakdown – at this point, he is even talking to himself now.
After 10 minutes of reading, I find it; {A/N: I made this up} Three-headed dogs are commonly used for guarding items of value. The best way to keep them asleep is to play calming music. They are only dangerous if someone (who isn't the owner) tries to access what they protect.
At this point, Draco has come back to his senses and is staring at me. "What WAS THAT?!" I grimace at the outburst; I know I will have to explain what I have just learnt.
"A three-headed dog, they protect things of value." He looks like I have grown two extra heads.
"Ok but WHY?" he screeches, it was an annoying high pitch screech too.
"That's what I have to figure out, you go rest while I do this, you need to take a breath to understand what's going on" I suggest, Draco nods and makes his way up the stairs.
--- time skip ---
After much time spent researching and thinking about what someone could possibly be guarding within the grounds of the castle, I decided to go for a walk. I realised that I would have to sneak, as I wasn't sure if it is against the rules to be out at this time of night.
As I went to open the portrait but then I heard Draco's footprints.
"Y/N where are you going?" I'm not going to lie to him.
"I was going on a walk, maybe sneak into the kitchen. Do you want to join?" his face lights up with joy, maybe at the thought that someone wanted him involved in a fun thing.
"Yeah, sure I will tag along." With his simple response, we opened the portrait and forgot about all our worries, just so we could sneak out and have some fun.
