I followed shortly hoping to be able to help Keith out with whatever he had decided to make. I stood beside the counter next to him as he scoured the fridge for anything he could find to turn into a meal. There was nothing. “you do realise you used to live alone right?” he asked me.
“i am very aware.” I responded, raising my eyebrow slightly at him. He huffed at my facial reaction before continuing what I thought was going to be a complaint. “so if you are aware, why is your fridge so bare. Are you expecting yourself to die of starvation?!” he yelled. He spun around to look at me, concern yet absolute annoyance lay prominent in his eyes. “as a matter of fact, that is exactly what I was trying to pull off so thank you so much for pointing that out for me.” I teased. He rolled his eyes yet again before walking past me and towards the cupboards. On his way by, he couldn’t resist gently punching me in the side. I winced jokingly, in which he turned around worriedly. “im sorry, did I hurt you?” he panicked and began to fuss my side in the hopes of making it better. I started laughing at how easily caught of guard he was considering he was the great Keith Kogane. He was seriously annoyed at this point. He decided to go back to what he was previously trying to do but he didn’t leave without muttering a brief, ‘i hate you’. I had to stifle yet another giggle and instead sat at the kitchen table and watched as he stooped over draws and cupboards. He had pinned his hair back again which was unbelievably cute, I don’t think I could explain in actual words how cute it looked. After figuring that it was futile to find anything, he stood back up and wiped his forehead with the back of his hand. He stood stiffly when he realised his shoulder had seized up so he moved his shoulder backwards and forwards in circular motions. “You know I don’t mind helping with that.” I explained. He blushed at the comment but decided to walk over to me anyway. He gave me easy access to his shoulder and allowed me to massage it gently. I pushed firmly into his tender skin and began to rub. Keith was surprisingly relaxed about the whole ordeal and didn’t at all seem bothered that I was stood here massaging his shoulders. It was almost as if it was normal to him, like second nature. When I had finally finished easing his muscles, he looked at me before leaving to his room. “Don’t i get a thanks?!” I called after him. He stopped halfway up the stairs and just smirked at me. He continued up them. Don’t get me wrong, I was mildly annoyed that he had left so suddenly but it felt good not having him there for that moment of time. It gave me time to think back on what it was like with Keith back on the ship. It was funny because for the last ten years, that was all I could think about. Keith and Allura. But now having him here with me, almost put a barrier across what I could previously remember as if my brain was trying to tell me not to delve that far into my memories. I remembered snippets here and there but it was hazy. The most prominent memory was that moment where Keith was sat in front of the sunset with Kosmo. The sun really caught his hair that day and reflected off of everything on him, making him look almost godly. I remember that day feeling confused. I watched him as he sparkled with beauty before finally making myself known to him. It felt weird. I thought I had liked Allura. I kissed her for heaven’s sake and I liked it. But Keith was a different story. I didn’t know what to do, I couldn’t leave Allura. I loved her and I wouldn’t trade her for the world. Yet Keith was always in the back of my mind. His smile, the way his eyes would sparkle, the way he laughed with Shiro, the way I could never cause that happiness for him. I took Allura, and then I lost her. That moment on was when I was desperate to see that smiling mullet head again and I was adamant that was what I wanted. It took me years to finally post those pleas that I wanted to send to the world in hopes of finding him. Keith.
I got interrupted by a pair of hands on my shoulders. “lance?” I heard a concerned voice ask. I turned to see his smiling face. “are you okay, you seemed pretty out of it then?” he took his hands away from me but he was still dangerously close. I nodded and shook my head to clear the daze from my form. “yeah, sorry I am doing fine. I just thought you had left for your room that was all.” I explained chuckling slightly to hide the tension. “ah, I apologise. I had to go and grab my jacket before heading out. You are driving by the way.” He told me. I was still not entirely following what he was trying to imply. “wait why?” I demanded, my voice raising in pitch slightly.
“we are going to go and get food to actually make some stuff since you can’t seem to restock your supplies like a normal human being.” He huffed while folding his arms across his chest. His black shirt stretching across his still prominent abs. I couldn’t seem to take my eyes away from the sight before me but I had to force myself too in fear that Keith caught my staring. “well I’m sorry that I only go out when it is extremely necessary because I can’t read Japanese.” I counteracted. He started laughing then.
“you are kidding right? You live in Japan and you can’t read Japanese, why do you live here then?” he was howling with laughter now.
“shut up Keith. I can speak fluently thank you, I just can’t read it. And I expect you can?” I teased, raising an eyebrow. Keith nodded and uncrossed his arms while staring at me intently. “as a matter of fact, yes, I can read Japanese and I can speak it.” I rolled my eyes at is claim.
“Why does that not surprise me.” I sighed. I got ready to shove my shoes on when I noticed the jacket that he was wearing. It was a cropped red, white and yellow jacket. The same jacket that he wore as a paladin of Voltron. I’m surprised that it still fit him. Then again, his figure hadn’t changed much at all. His features had certainly matured a fair amount but his basic stature didn’t seem to change. “You still have that jacket?” I asked. He scowled and brushed off my outburst. He made a grab for the door handle to pull it down when he realised that he couldn’t open it since he didn’t have a key. He muttered a little ‘damn’ before turning to me expectantly. I grinned at him and opened it like a true gentleman. “my lady.” I told him and bowed to allow him out. He gave me a half hearted kick to the shin and left for my old Nissan.
