Saturday rolled around and Harper was so nervous. Yes she had been on dates before but it was different. Not in the cliche way because it was Jake and it 'just felt right' but because she knew that if this went wrong she would have to face him everyday at work knowing her chances were ruined. That thought scared her.
When Harper gets nervous she gets shy, she talks as little as possible and she really didn't want that to happen. She wanted to show Jake that she can be fun and interesting but she knew she had no chance if her nerves get in the way.
She looked through her wardrobe looking for a suitable dress. She wanted something that shows she put effort into the date. She picked it a hot pink mini dress that hate a small cut out beside her breasts and a cut out at either side. A pair of 4 inch black heels so she could easily and a handbag that matched her shoes. Harper decided to go light on the makeup she didn't want to take the time to do a full face of wash it off once she came home she she went with a semi natural look.
Jake was going to come pick her up then they were going to go for a meal. Harper hated the feeling of butterflies in her stomach, she hadn't felt them in so long.
Jake on the other hand was a mess when he was nervous, he did the most random things and didn't know when to shut up. Sometimes it drove people away but other times they liked that he could hold the conversation if you can even call it that it was more stumbling over his words.
Jake didn't want to dress up to much so he wore his nicest pair of jeans and t-shirt. He hoped he wasn't underdressed but he knew he wouldn't compare to Harper even if she was wearing a trash bag.
Harper decided to have a quick half glass of wine while waiting for Jake to show up as a last minute attempt to calm her nerves.
She received a text from Jake who said that he was leaving his house right then and is on his way to pick her up for their date.
That was a lie, Jake had left his house 30 minutes ago, he was actually on his way to get flowers for harper as he wanted to impress her. It occurred to him that he didn't actually know what type of flowers were harpers favourite so he went with roses as they were easy and everyone likes roses right?
half an hour had passed and harper wondered what was taking Jake so long, his house wasn't that far. Then just like he heard her thoughts Jake knocked at her door. she decided to walk over slowly not wanting to seem like she was waiting by the door.
When she opened the door she noticed Jake had a bundle of roses in his hand. harper hates roses, she claims that an English teacher ruined them for her by always analysing them, giving them different meanings. she never cared if a dying rose symbolised the love dying between the main characters after all everything dies in the end, the rose was going to die anyway with or without the love between the characters. Or how the thorns represent how something beautiful could be harmful, she just didn't care.
