Chapter 12 Ice skating

The winter break started two days ago as now you had two weeks for yourself. You decided you were going to study for your lessons, seeing that you'd not be able to leave the Hospital Wing anytime soon.

As you were reading a book in magical creatures, you let out a sigh while you glanced out at the window to see the trees covered in white snow. A small smile appeared on your face as you remembered a snow fight you once had with your parents when you were eight years old.

You continued on reading the book and while you were at half the paragraph, the door to the hospital wing opened but you kept your nose buried on the interesting words of the book.

Meanwhile...

Severus' P.O.V.

Today was the second day of the winter break. There was silence in the castle, just how I like it. As I was heading to the Great Hall to have some breakfast, I suddenly remembered that (y/n) was staying here for the holidays. For some reason, the thought of her made me smile... at least inwardly.

I'm going to go and see her after breakfast, maybe she's feeling better.

TIME SKIP

Then, I decided to go to the Hospital Wing and see if (y/n) is feeling better. I walked down the large corridors until I arrived at the room she is now resting in. When I entered the room, I saw (y/n) sitting on her bed reading a book. I rolled my eyes slightly at her sight, she does not seem to understand what 'school break' means.

Suddenly, an idea popped into my mind and I started to head towards Madam Pomfrey, who was at the other side of the room.

End of P.O.V.

You heard when someone entered the room but your eyes stayed glued to the book you were reading but after a couple of minutes, the sound of footsteps approaching your bed gained your attention as you looked up from your book just to see Madam Pomfrey with Severus standing next to her. "Good morning Miss (l/n)." said the kind lady. You smiled in return and she continued "Professor Snape here is going to give you some lessons on your next assignments so you'd be able to continue with your classes."

Confusion washed over you but before you could ask anything about it, she turned around and went to the other side of the room to go get something.

You turned your gaze to the Professor dressed in all black standing in front of you and you raised an eyebrow at him in questioning. "Can you walk?" he asked you.

Pulling the blankets from your body, you swang your legs to the side of the bed, you put on your shoes and stand from the sitting position. A small smile graced your lips "I think I'll be fine." you said "Either way, I don't want you to get tired, Poppy's orders so..." and as if timing was perfect, Madam Pomfrey came back pushing a wheelchair in front of her.

You smiled at her and walked slowly towards it, sitting down in the surprisingly comfortable chair. The Potions Master nodded at Madam Pomfrey and she walked away, not before giving you a last smile. Severus started to push you out of the hospital wing and once in the corridors, you looked up at him and asked "Where are we going?" he looked down at you "You'll see." you frowned a bit and said "You said that the last time." he raised an eyebrow at you "And you liked the surprise, didn't you?" At his statement you couldn't argue back so you purse your lips and return your gaze back to the stone corridors.

Severus tried to suppress a chuckle but he failed miserably, you looked up at him again in surprise "You laughed?!" he glared at you but that only made you laugh uncontrollably, and one more time, a proud feeling crept at the bottom of the Potions Master's heart, knowing that he was the reason behind your laughs made him incredibly happy.

Once you calmed down, you realized that you were now in the courtyard "But really, where are you taking me? I have the right to know Professor." you heard him sigh deeply "Aren't you cold?" he asked, trying to avoid your question "No." you replied shortly, understanding that he wasn't going to tell you anything, you didn't ask more questions.

"If at any point you feel tired don't hesitate to tell me, it could be really dangerous if you exhaust yourself." you looked up at him "Okay, don't worry about it.... Can I ask you a question professor?" he turned his onyx eyes down at you "Go on." "Are you really going to give me some lessons or are you taking me somewhere else?" He thought for a moment his answer, looking straight ahead "No, I won't give you any lessons because as I said once, I already taught you everything I know and to answer your questions, yes, I'm taking you somewhere else, happy?" you smiled brightly at him "Very much, sir." he rolled his eyes at your antics, but again, that just made you laugh more.

He continued to push your chair across the courtyard until you were out of the school grounds. Suddenly, Severus stopped walking and turned to look at you "What's wrong?" you asked him as he went to stand in front of you "The wheelchair can't go further than this." you nodded at him and Severuss went to pick you up from the chair.

He slipped his hands under your form and lifted you up in his arms, your arms were around his neck and he continued the journey carrying you effortlessly. He walked down a pair of stairs that eventually led to the Black Lake.

You two were in a comfortable silence as you wanted to enjoy every second of this moment; you being held in Professor Snape's arms while he took you to a mysterious place. It was a dream come true.

After some minutes, he stopped walking and lowered you down in what you guessed to be the cold snow but then, you found yourself sitting in a comfy blanket that was, surprisingly, warm. You smiled up at the Potions Master as he sat down next to you.

You were facing the frozen Black Lake when you asked "How is it that the blanket is warm?" he turned to look at you and said "With a simple charm." you hummed in response and fixed your gaze back to the lake.

"Thank you for taking me out of the hospital wing, professor. I was getting tired of being there all the time." you said. He looked down at you as you kept your eyes on the lake and after a couple of minutes, he said "Severus." you turned to him and he continued "You may call me Severus when we are alone." you smiled brightly at him "Alright Severus." a small smile graced his lips as you returned your (e/c) eyes to the frozen mass of water.

"It's really calm in here." you pointed out in an attempt to start a conversation "Indeed it is." he replied shortly. You sighed slightly and looked for your wand in your robes, out of pure luck, you didn't leave it in the hospital wing, so you took it out and stood up from the warm blanket slowly.

Severus turned to look at you and you started to take small and cautious steps towards the lake "What are you doing?" you heard the black-haired man ask behind you, you just chuckled and continued walking until you were at the edge of the lake. "(y/n) come back here, you shouldn't tire yourself out." you heard Severus said as well as some footsteps approaching you.

But before he could reach where you were standing, you grabbed your wand and transfigured your shoes into a pair of skates. With a wide grin on your face, you stepped in the ice and started to skate gracefully across the frozen lake.

Severus watched you from afar as you skate along the ice, your (h/c) hair was flying behind you and a wide smile was painted on your face. And after skating around the lake for a couple of times, you went back to where Professor Snape was standing and with a smile on your face, you said "Would you like to join me?"

He raised an eyebrow at you "I don't even know how to do it." he stated in a monotone voice. You rolled your eyes playfully "It's easy," you approached him more and, with a flick of your wand, Severus was now wearing a pair of black skates and before he could say anything, you took his big hands in your small ones and practically, dragged him to the ice.

"What are you doing? Let's get back, you shouldn't tire yourself out (y/n), I already said that and you know it!" you fixed your gaze up at him, looking in his dark eyes as you were skating backwards "But it's not tiring! Besides, who knows if I'd be able to do this again." He just stared down at you while you continued to skate slowly.

"See! You are now doing it." you said enthusiastically but Severus kept his eyes glued to you and in that moment, he vowed to himself that, from now and on, he'd make that enchanting smile appear on your face, even if he had to do things he's never done before -like ice skating- just to see you smile.
