You breathed in the salty sea air, happy to be back in Naples. For the last 2 years, you studied abroad in America but you were finally back in your home country. Everything seemed so different, you were amazed by how much could change in just 2 short years. You decided to get reacquainted with the city by spending the day wandering about and visiting the places you used to spend so much time at.
Your first step was the local library, you used to spend all your days studying and practicing your English with the bilingual librarian. After catching up with a few people at the library, you decided to go to the cafe near your apartment. You used to work part time at the small restaurant and made a lot of good friends there. As you entered the establishment, the small bell on the door chimed, signaling your entrance.
"Welcome to- " the waitress looked up at you "(y/n)???" Her eyes lit up as she ran in for a hug.
You let laughter consume you as you hugged your old friend "hey, Cara" You and Cara go way back, you first met her in high school and then started working together at the cafe.
"I cant believe you're back! Why didnt you tell me?" She playfully punched your arm
"I'm sorry, but it's been so long, I wasn't sure who was still around"
She gave you a gentle smile "yeah, I'm still hanging around. A lot has changed since you left though" she sipped at her tea
"oh?" You began "how so?"
"Well for starters, the town is pretty much run by the mafia" she sighed "we are lucky that we are able to get protection from Bucciarati but-" her words caused you to choke slightly on your drink
"did you say Bucciarati? Like, Bruno Bucciarati?!" You coughed out.
"Haha, yeah, he's the boss for Passione"
you and Cara used to ogle at Bruno as he sipped his tea quietly, he always had such charm. After weeks of staring at him from a far with only the occasional interaction when you served him, you two finally had a full conversation. Bruno was always so attentive whenever you would rant about your problems, in fact he was the one who encouraged you to study abroad to chase your dreams.
"Earth to (y/n)" Cara waved her hand in front of your face, tearing you away from your memories "geez, still lovestruck over Bruno?"
"Well I cant help it...he helped me through a lot" you blushed slightly.
"Well, you know, he still comes in"
your ears perked up "wait, really?" If you were a dog your tail would've been wagging like crazy
"yes, he should be in soon now that I think about it" she checked the clock on the wall "I have to get back to work, wanna help out? Like old times?"
"Wont your boss get mad?"
She let out a small chuckle "I am the boss now" with that, you put on an apron and got to work taking people's orders, it was so nostalgic.
While in the kitchen you felt Cara gently nudge your arm "hey, your lover is here" she snickered and pointed to a table filled with five men, but it wasn't hard for you to locate bruno.
