Amelia
1 day later
"How are you feeling Amelia?".
I shuddered at the sight of the doctor. Even though he was kind looking and had a nice smile, I despised hospitals. I seemingly spent my life in a hospital with my condition. It was a constant back and forth.
"I've got a bit of a headache, but I'm okay".
The doctor walked over to a nearby cabinet and pulled out some medication. He popped 2 pills from out of a packet and handed them over to me in a little white pot with a cup of water.
"Have some paracetamol. But other than that, nothing else? You almost died Amelia. Your blood sugar levels were dangerously low, but your sister saved your life and"-
I couldn't help but lower my eyes down to my hands at the mention of my sister. My sweet older sister who suffered so much all because she chose to save me even though she knew the consequences that would follow.
"I-I promise, it's just a headache. Please, I need to see my sister. I've been here all day. I feel well enough" I begged with tears starting to well in my eyes.
The last memory of my sister was of her strained screams in the room next to mine. The laughs of men, the sounds of beating and torture. No-one seemed to be informing me of her state.
When Elias and his men stormed the building, they took us out of there, but treated us in separate rooms.
"Amelia, I must insist. You need to rest and"-
Looking down at the cannula in my arm, I went to pull it out to show my desperation, but the door of my hospital room opened up only for the last man I'd ever expect to see show up.
"It's okay Dr Yael, I'll take over from here. Thank you".
I felt bad for being so defiant, but I needed to see my sister. It had been a whole day, she could be dead for all I know.
Watching the doctor leave us alone in the room, Elias sat in the chair beside the bed I was on a stared at me.
"I don't know whether to slap you or thank you" I whispered lowly still unsure if I could trust him.
Elias nodded whilst looking down at his hands. I watched him intently as he ran his hands through his hair with sadness etched onto his face.
It had been ages since I last saw him, but he looked like a completely different person. He looked stressed. He had deep bags under his eyes, his cheeks had sunken and he looked a lot thinner.
There were so many things I wanted to say to him, so many things I wanted to scream at him for, but I couldn't help but observe him.
The newspapers stated he was in a happy marriage, but if anything it looked like an abusive marriage. Old bruises on his arms along with scratch marks down his cheeks. But what surprised me most was no ring on his ring finger.
"I have a million questions, but I need to know how my sister is. Is, is she alive?".
Elias rested his head in his hands and slowly shook his head.
I felt nausea swirl in my stomach at the broken sight of him. His skin had paled and his body trembled.
"Oh God, she's dead! She's dead isn't she". Jumping out of bed, I started to try and get some clothes on, but Elias gently pulled me back so I was sat on the bed.
"No, she's not, but she may as well be" he whispered the last part out so quietly that I almost missed the words.
Elias stood up from the chair he was sat on and walked away to the door.
