"Aki I don't think I'm ready for this!"
"Yes you are. Come on I'm sure he's here somewhere."
"Aki I-"
"Hitoka we have to-"
"I'm scared Aki, I'm scared."
The pair stopped their roam around the school, Yachi's feet pressed firmly into the ground as she stopped Aki from pulling her.
"I don't think I can do this anymore, I know we said I would but what happens if he doesn't want to be friends with me any more? What would I do?"
Yachi's earlier firm resolution was slowly slipping from her grasp and the dangerous fear was settling in. It wasn't hard to admit that she was terrified to the bone, even a piece of dirt could tell.
Aki's face softened for a second before hardening, a look of helplessness settling on her features.
"Are you really just going to let him go?"
Yachi stared at the ground, her consciousness weighing heavy on her heart. She watched an ant crawl across one of the cracks in the tiles, as it struggled to carry a crumb.
"Hitoka."
Yachi looked up to meet Aki's gaze.
"I know that this is hard. But if you don't do anything now it's gonna get worse. Way worse. But nothing is going to get better if the both of you stay in your own little depressed worlds and never interact with each other again. You got to stop it before it gets worse. You have to take responsibility."
Silence seeped into the air as the brunette's words hung in the air. Yachi knew that her friend was right. She knew she had to do this. Yet the fire in her stomach was battling a cold war of anxiety.
But she couldn't help but think of him and his stupidly cute smile. The way his face lit up at practice when ever his hard work finally gave him a perfect serve. His stupid stupid freckles which reminded her of the stars she dearly loved. She couldn't help but remember the heart broken stare that dug into her soul after she stayed silent.
"How am I so pathetic?"
Aki stared at the blonde, her answer simple silence. Yachi didn't respond either, the courage that had fueled her when she confronted her mom and joined the team raging through her bones. She wiped her shaking hands on her skirt and cleared her throat before giving Aki a grim smile.
The fire won.

Yamaguchi continued to lay his head on his desk, his eyes drooping every once in a while as he tried to stay awake. He really needed a nap, but there was no assurance someone would wake him up before the next class started.
He let out a forced snicker as he remembered the time Neru (as their class called her) had fallen asleep one morning and wasn't woken up till the last bell of the school day. Their teacher had had a field day of giving out detentions with that one.
He was broken out of his thoughts as a chime on his phone notified him. He picked it up and stared at the screen.
'Exclusive Patron Sale going on now! You have been selected as one of the few customers to receive a free Ice Pop Strawberry! Scan coupon code now to..'
Yamaguchi squinted his eyes at the screen, the glare irritable to his eyes before setting it down with a sigh.
'Lucky me'
A crackling filled the room as the air conditioning slowly turned on, the broken fans creaking inside the vents. The school had been meaning to replace them, 'Whenever we have enough extra money' they said.
