Everybody in the house had heard the ding from a cellphone outside the front door. It was clear as day: Lamar. Everyone was completely silent as the only sound that could be heard was wind outside.
To give you a visual, Miles's front door had a mailbox built into it, with a large flap covering it. Suddenly, the flap opened and in came a hand grenade.
"RUN!!" Lincoln yelled as everybody dove for cover, either in the dining room or behind the kitchen counters. Lincoln couldn't leave Zeus behind, though. The warrior was still lying on the couch right by the door, in pain.
Lincoln grabbed him and practically dragged him to the dining room, or at least tried to, as the grenade blasted before they could even get in the doorway.
Lincoln collapsed, with his left leg being injured. Zeus took more damage since he was behind Lincoln, closer to the explosion.
Ronnie Anne ran to check up on them while Miles grabbed the revolver sitting on a side-table in the dining room and bolted out the front door to chase after Lamar.
Zeus struggled to stand up at first, but eventually, he did, looking almost like he had completely overcome his injuries. He was a tough dog, indeed.
Miles left the front door open as he searched for Lamar, but strangely, he couldn't see him anywhere.
Then Zeus sprinted out the door, too, following Miles, but then overlapping him while sprinting to the right, in the direction of the hideout.
"Zeus, no!" Miles screamed as Zeus sprinted to chase after him. Once they got further down the street, the dog stopped in his tracks. It was Lamar, who had gotten pretty far from the house.
Miles was about to fire his revolver at Lamar, but it was like Lamar had eyes in the back of his head. He had a gun, too, and he was quicker than Miles and pulled the trigger right away.
Lincoln heard a loud BANG and then a scream from the home.
"...Miles...," Lincoln thought and then realized.
Lamar had shot Miles in the middle of the chest, striking one of his lungs. He was going to finish off Miles right there, but he was out of ammunition. Instead, he examined Zeus and then walked up to Miles. For some reason, Zeus seemed to be scared of Lamar.
"Well, tough luck, kid. I guess not all of us can make it to the end, somebody's gotta die in there, somewhere," Lamar chuckled, then he peeked at Zeus, "Hey...this is that shitty pitbull that killed some of my best dogs, isn't it? He killed my doberman, rottweiler, and my great-dane. At least those dogs gave him a run for his money, they almost killed him countless times, that's why he's scared of me."
When Ronnie Anne first heard Miles scream, she wanted to help, and so did Lincoln, but he knew good enough to know it was a trap.
"He's gone, Ronnie Anne...so is Zeus," Lincoln claimed.
Back on the street, Miles passed away due to shock and suffocation.
"Haha, now you're gonna be next, mutt!" Lamar tried to kick Zeus in the face, but Zeus caught his leg with his fangs, and he wouldn't stop there, either. He twisted his leg and kept munching on it.
Lamar tried to stop it, but he couldn't. Zeus finally let go as Lamar fell to the ground with blood accompanying him.
"Hey! What's going on?!" It was Denny coming to investigate. At this point, Zeus bolted back home.
When Zeus returned home and Miles didn't, it was obvious what happened. Lincoln was heart-broken, but not as heart-broken as Alexandra would be.
She returned home later that day, and asked, "Where's Miles?"
