After two checkpoints and I knew it was safe, I jabbed my knee into Kaz's thigh, "Kaz." He said nothing so I jabbed harder, "Kaz." This time, I heard Kaz wake up and inhale sharply. I stepped away from him, pushing the people behind me to give him space. "Keep talking," a raspy voice told me. "What?" I asked.
"Just keep talking," he pleaded.
"We're passing through the prison gate. We made it past the first two checkpoints," I said. The wagon stopped, the doors flew open and I could feel my collar being unlocked. I had a moment where I got the chance to breath deeply before I realised I was about to be thrown into another cell.
I was lead out of the wagon and lead somewhere else, while walking my hood was yanked free and I could see the huge courtyard we were walking in. "If this isn't Farbrikator craft, then I'm queen of the wood sprites," Nina muttered in Kerch. "Tig!" One of the guards commanded and yet again I found myself standing up straight.
The guard slammed his rifle into Nina's gut making her double over in pain, but we had to continue. When the guards moved, I helped Nina to her feet, "You okay?" My voice was different than normal. Smaller. Less confident. "I'm fine." Nina replied,"but I don't think we have to worry about Pekka Rollins anymore." I followed her gaze to see five of Rollins men had been impaled on spikes.
When they separated us from girls and boys, I had to refrain myself from yelling out for Kaz. After the lady made sure I wasn't Grisha, we were lead through an ark on the right while the boys were lead to one of the left. I made eye contact with Kaz before we couldn't see each other. He gave me a small reassuring nod, despite the fear I could see in his eyes.
The guards made us get undressed, I hesitated on taken my gloves off but I slipped them off. They then checked our mouths to see if we had hidden anything, I had of course. Kaz had done the same, to cause a distraction. When the guard took the small metal lock pick out of my mouth, he didn't check the coating on Nina's arm to hide that she was Grisha. When we were thrown into cells, I sat in the corner on a bench. I wanted to pace, but the feeling of my chest being compacted wasn't helping. Inej stayed right beside me, making sure I didn't have a panic attack or worse.

The guard came and gave us water and after he left I undid the stitching in my neck and pulled out the small pellet of chloro powder. Jesper would be doing the same. After me, Nina and Inej pulled out damp shirts over our mouths, I dropped the pellet into the urine. The gas immediately came up and I watched as the prisoners dropped. Now we just had to wait for Kaz and Wylan. When they got there we stood waiting, Kaz tossed me the lock picks Jesper had made and then him and Wylan watched the hall while I unlocked the cell.
Once out, Kaz said that he wanted to go ahead and check the upper cells. Me and Inej tried arguing with him about having to climb flights of stairs with a bad leg, but of course he didn't listen. I would of gone with him but I couldn't cope in there anymore, he knew that. When me, Wylan and Inej went to the refuse room, we had a small problem. The incinerator had been running that afternoon instead of the morning, leaving it still smoldering.
After Jesper and Matthias got here, we told them while I found our clothes, "these are our clothes." I handed Inej her shoes and watched as a wide smile spread across her face before she began climbing with Kaz's gloves once I handed them to her. I then found my gloves buried at the bottom, I let out a content sigh when I pulled them on.
"How come I always get stuck with the boys?" I asked as I walked to join the small group as we waited for Inej to get to the top and drop down the rope. "Boys are better," Jesper replied.
I gasped fake hurt, "lies."
"Boys are better friends to you," Jesper said again.
"Alright, fair," I replied.
