Oh, wow, it's been a hot minute since I've done this.
I wrote this book when I was around 11. I was deep into the whole "fangirls who write CPs as anything but evil assholes are bad writers" and stuff like that. I even thought that the Slender Mansion was a stupid AU, even though I loved it.
I'm 14 now, and I've grown a lot since then. I've realized something now. I was going back down the Creepypasta rabbit hole on Tumblr last night, and I saw a post. That's what prompted me to make this chapter.
It basically said that most kids who latched onto Creepypasta characters realized they were either queer, neurodivergent, or came from a bad home life, and that it was kind of a way of dealing with that and relating. It also said that the kids who liked the Slender Mansion AU were usually just wishing for some stability or happiness.
I find that extremely true looking back on it. I loved the Slender Mansion AU and it was one of my main "worlds" I daydreamed when I was around 11-12.
It turns out that I'm bisexual, most likely ND, and have a shitty home life. I loved Jane because I wanted a mother figure who would protect me from the bad things in life and love me, and I loved the Slender Mansion because I wanted a nice family.
I'm done with cringe culture now. The "shitty OCs" were probably just characters made for fun and the authors didn't deserve to be made fun of by a preteen for doing so.
Interpret the characters however you want. Make as many AUs and go wild with the Slender Mansion. Make as many poorly written (affectionate) OCs as you want. Ship yourself or your OCs with other CPs. Go absolutely crazy.
This is the final part of this book, and I apologize to the creators of Clockwork and Nina the Killer. I also apologize to any OC creators who I roasted in the other parts of this book. I might not agree with your decisions on writing, but you're well within your rights to make your OCs the way you did, and no one should make fun of you for that. Have fun with your characters!
