eren's pov:

it's been a couple nights since mikasa and i talked about what happened. i'm so thankful she understands why i did what i did and she's not angry with me. i told her we should just be friends. of course i want to be more than that, but it would tear our friend group apart. we saw what it did after just one night.

the group chat has been dead and i'm just trying to let everyone cool off before i even say anything. even though jean should be the one to apologize first.

i'm over at mikasa's house hanging out with her. she's in the shower right now, doing her night routine. i'm spending the night. she told me it's completely normal for "just friends" to have sleepovers so i'm goin with it.

i was laying on her bed looking around her room. her closet wall was positioned in front of her bed. i noticed a red fabric hanging from one of the hangers. no way. i got up to get a closer look. i pulled the soft red fabric from the closet and noticed it was my scarf. i didn't realize she had kept it all these years.

"what are you doing eren?" i heard her ask. i jumped as i didn't realize she was out of the shower. i turned around with the scarf in my hand. her hair was wet and wavy and she was wearing an oversized hoodie that covered her shorts. she looked so cute.

"you still have this?" i asked.

"yeah of course." she replied blushing a little.

"you remember why i gave it to you?" i remember but i want to see if she does.

"yes. we were hanging out in my backyard in the fall time right?" she asked me as we both sat down on the bed.

"mhm. we were raking the leaves." i added.

"oh yeah and even though our parents told us to put our coats on we didn't, we went outside and jumped in the leaves without them anyways." she said rolling her eyes at how stupid we were.

"and when we went to go inside levi locked us out." i said.

"dumb fuck forgot he was babysitting us." she stated while laughing making me chuckle too.

"and you were so cold your lips started to turn purple."

"oh my god yeah, you were so scared that you thought i was going to die. you gave me your scarf to warm me up." she remembered.

"did it work?"

"yes.. i also remember you cried didn't you? you were so worried about me." she said laughing.

"i was a kid." i pushed her lightly.

"levi got in so much trouble for that. i remember he played dolls with me for a week."

"i miss being little, we didn't have anything to worry about."

"yeah." she said a little sad.

"well i'll put this back." i said getting up and walking to her closet, eager to change the subject because i could tell it was going to make us both upset.

i walked back over to her bed and got under the covers. i checked my phone and i didn't realize it was already one in the morning.

"hey eren." mikasa said.

"yes?" i replied.

"can we cuddle.. as friends?" she asked nervously.

"i don't see why not." i told her. friends cuddle all the time right?

she rolled closer to me and i put my arm around her. as she burrowed her face into my neck she said, "goodnight eren, have sweet dreams."

"goodnight mikasa." i said before i was overcome by sleep.
