A faint murmering was coming from the kitchen of my Foster home.
"Hello? Yes...I'd like to return Sophie Foster. Yes I'm aware. Thank you." I peeked in to see my Foster mom talking on the phone to, I guessed, the Child Protective Services. This wasn't the first time I've heard this conversation. This was my 5th Foster home, and each time I'm asked to leave. I don't exactly fit it. I'm still, like before I was brought to the Lost Cities, a freak.
"Sophie, dear, does my makeup look okay?" My Foster mom asked, coming out of the kitchen.
"Yes, Miss," I responded meekly.
"Ugh, I have to go make it look like I've been crying. To make it look like I loved you but couldn't take care of you."
'Ouch' was my first thought.

One hour later, the Child Protective Services pulled up in a black van.
"Hello again, Sophie!" The lady driving exclaimed. She's picked me up so many times that I knew her name was Laureen Dover.
"Hi," I mumbled.
"Good news! There's a family that wants to Foster you. The woman, Sally Jackson, has a son, but he's usually away, and she gets lonely. She wants you for company!"
I sighed, 'I wonder how long it'll take before I get kicked out of this one...'
