It was Saturday the thirtieth of August today, the day the janoskians would announce the lucky girl. We all went to Jennifer's house - she only had to stay in hospital for one night - because it was difficult for her to shift.
We sat in a circle around my phone, waiting tensed for a call. We've been sitting like this for two hours and then my phone rang. I didn't know what to do, I was nervous. Taking phone calls and calling people, these are the two only things of which I become nervous.
"Are you going to answer?", Grace remarked.
"Wait," I said. So I braced myself and took my phone, I pressed on the green answer button and said: "Hello, Lana speaking." My heart was pounding and my hands were sweating.
"Hey, it's James here," the voice on the other end of the line said.
"O, hey James," I said.
"How are you?", he asked. He can't be serious, the only thing I want from him is the result not a smooth talk.
"Good," I answered while trying to stay patient.
"Aren't you going to ask me if I'm alright," he responded. I rolled my eyes, even though he couldn't see it.
What's going on?', Jen mouthed.
'Turn on your speaker,' Lisa added, so I did. I laid my phone back in the middle of the circle.
"No, James. The only thing I want is the result: Am I going to participate in the video or not?", I said rudely.
"I have to disappoint you, I'm so sorry," he truly meant it.
"Don't worry, I really wanted it but it isn't that bad. Although it was a great opportunity," I responded a bit sadly.
"But I'm going to try convince the boys to choose two other girls, so we can make three videos. So there's a small chance you yet could participate," he said elated.
"That would be grate," I said and my friends squealed.
"Are you on speaker?", James asked.
"Yes, I am," I said honestly.
"Haha, talk to you soon," he said.
"Bye, James."
"Bye, Lana."
"Why were you so rude?", Lisa asked me.
"Because I like him," I admitted.
"That make sense," Grace responded.
"I don't know how to act around him, because I don't want to fall into his trap," I said.
"What trap?", Jen asked.
"I don't know for sure if he means the things he says," I answered.
"You only talked to him twice," Grace remarked. I can't lie to them, I have to tell the truth.
"Well, actually that's not true," I started, "I saw him in Antwerp when I went shopping for shoes and I saw him during the first audition after I went to the toilet."
"Why didn't you told us?" Lisa asked.
"I don't know, I didn't think it was necessary," I said.
"Are you serious? They are like our lives and when you meet one of them you think it's not necessary to tell us about it," Grace was furious.
"I'm sorry, but I wanted to know for sure if he meant the things he had said," I explained.
"What things?", Jen asked.
"He said he liked me and he loved my smile etc," I said.
"Why? And when?", Lisa questioned.
"I'll tell you everything," I said and so I did. I told them everything that had happened in the alley and the hallway, they asked me a few details and twenty minutes later they were over it.
"I think you should call him," Jeniffer said.
"Yeah, maybe this evening," I answered.
"That's a good idea," Liz said.
"I still think you should've told us," Grace said still disapointed.
"That's why he want to make three videos," Lisa remarked.
"I think so," I said, "I really don't know what to do."
"Don't overthink it, just go with the flow," Jen laughed.
"Hahaha, I'll do that."
---------------------
Back home I said to my mom they didn't want me for the video.
"Oh, they don't know what they miss," she tried to cheer me up.
"It doesn't matter, although it was a great opportunity. But there's a small chance they're coming three videos, so maybe I yet could participate," I explained.
"That's great news. When do you know if these plans are going on?", she asked.
"I don't know, I think James is going to inform me." And then my phone rang. "Speaking of the devil."
"Quick, answer, go upstairs," my mother ordered me. So I did, I ran upstairs and answered the phone.
"Hi."
"Hey, Lana."
"Do you have news?"
"Not yet, but I suggested it and I think they found it a good idea."
"I hope so, I'm really looking forward to it."
"I don't know for sure, I don't want to give you false hope."
"I know, I'll prepare for the worse."
"Haha, that's a good idea."
"I wanted to call you."
"Why?"
"I like talking to you."
"I like talking to you too."
"Are you still in Belgium?"
"Yes, why?"
"Are you still here tomorrow?"
"Yes, shall we do something fun?"
"Sounds great."
"Where?"
"Where are you?"
"In a hotel in Antwerp."
"I can take a bus or train."
"That isn't a good idea, there're a lot of fans over here."
"Maybe you could come over and then we can go eat ice cream, there's a place nearby my house?"
"Excellent."
"I'll text you the address."
"Great, I'm looking forward to see you again but I have to go know. Beau is yelling."
"Hahaha, typically."
"Bye, Lana."
"Bye, James."
Does this mean I have a date? Or are we just friends? It's so confusing, I hope everything will come clear tomorrow.
I laid down on my bed and kept thinking about tomorrow, about the things that could go wrong. I'm going to call Grace. I need someone to talk to. I talked to her for 45 minutes. She gave me some good advises and she forgave me for not telling her I knew James. That's why I chose her to call, because I didn't want her to be mad at me and it worked.
After the call, I texted the address of the ice cream shop to James and went downstairs to tell my mom I wasn't going to be home tomorrow. I went back upstairs to choose cloths I could wear tomorrow, after half an hour I found an outfit: shorts with a simple top and my favourite, knitted cardigan.
I was mentally preparing myself and at the moment I thought I would be able to handle it, I fell asleep and dreamed about the next day.
