The next day I had to go to school to get my books for the final year. Finally, still one year and then it was time to go to university, although I had no idea what I was going to study.
So got out of my bed and took a shower. Afterwards I ate some cereal, blow dried my hair and brushed my teeth. At 10:45 I was ready and got in the car to go to school together with my mother.
Jennifer was still in hospital, so I had suggested to also get her books.
We arrived at school and went through the large gate from the oldest building of our school. We had to go to the refectory, because all the books were stored there as always.
We entered the big room and saw hundreds of piles. My gym teacher from past year came to us.
"Hello, Lana."
"Hello, sir McLeod."
"What's your last name again?"
"Ross."
"That's right, I didn't know for sure. I'll get you your books."
After two minutes he arrived with a high pile of books.
"Here they are."
"Thank you, sir. But I also have to get Jennifer's books."
"Oh, I'll get them for you. Jennifer Lynch."
"Here they are. I heard she's in hospital."
"Yes, she broke her leg but it isn't that bad."
"Hopefully she can be here the first day of school."
"I'm sure she will be here."
"That's good."
After we checked if we got all the books, we payed for them. We were walking back to the car carrying the boxes in which the heavy books sat, I saw Iris running towards me.
"Hi," she greeted spontaneous.
"Hey, how was your holiday?"
"Awesome, unfortunately we hadn't got time to hang out together. It was so busy."
"Indeed, it passed quickly."
"Maybe we can do something later today?"
"That's an excellent idea."
"Now I need to get my books."
"I need to go to the car, because my arms are getting tired," I laughed, then we said our goodbyes and went our own directions. My mom was already waiting in the car, because the boxes were too heavy for her to stop and she needed to go straight to the car.
"Was that Iris?", she asked, while starting the engine.
"Yes, you know her. You already saw her a few times," I answered.
"Yes, I know. But I'm not good with names," she explained.
"That's true," I agreed.
Fifteen minutes later we arrived home and I had decided to cover my books immediately, because otherwise I would forgot to do it. So I searched for the new paper my mom had bought; one had a floral print on it, the other had a butterfly print. I had a lot of work, because I had a lot of books. But eventually - one and a half hour later - I finished the job.
I went downstairs to eat something and then I could go to Iris.
"Did you manage the job?", she chuckled.
"Yes, mission succeed," I answered, "Can I go to Iris? She had asked me earlier in school."
"Are you serious? You barely have been at home this vacation."
"I know, but she insisted."
"Okay, but you have to be back at five o'clock."
"Okay, thank you."
And then I grabbed my penny board and went to Iris' house. The ride was longer than I thought, so it took me almost half an hour to get there. So I stood at her doorstep and she opened the door. She's always enthusiastic to see her friends. I like it, it's cute and it's certainly not fake, in her case it's spontaneous.
"Hi, Lana. Good to see you again," she said while pulling me in for a hug.
"Hey, I missed you," I joked.
"Yeah, it's been a while," she played along.
"Come inside," she suggested.
"That's a good idea."
"Do you want to swim or go eating ice cream in the saloon or something like that?"
"Let's go to the saloon, the ice cream is delicious there and we can catch up while eating."
"Okay, excellent idea."
I chose a Dame Blanche with strawberries and Iris picked vanilla ice cream with fresh fruits. After eating, we went back to her house and swam in her pool. I forgot to bring a bathing suit, but I borrowed one of her. At 4:30 pm I went back home.
Then it became clear why my mother wanted me to be home, she had made a feast. She had made chicken soup, filet pure and several deserts: chocolate mousse, tiramisu and crème brûlée. It was delightful and it was cozy to dinner together with my family. But then the actual reason of this dinner came.
"We want to tell you something," my mother said.
"Is is that bad?", my sister asked.
"Why do you think that?", my mother answered.
"Because you made a meal for the whole royal family," Meghan responded.
"Oh, no. I just got into it," my mother assured her.
"We're going to move," my father announced.
"Why?", I immidiately asked.
"For work," he answered shortly.
"So it's abroad," I remarked.
"Yes, but it's only for six months," he explained.
"But that's impossible with my studies," my sister complained.
"Your old enough to stay home alone, we keep the house of course so you can stay here," my father said.
"And I, what do I have to do? I don't want to leave my friends and my final year, I don't want to - ", I started, but then my dad interrupted me: "It's in Australia."
"Okay, now I'm listening," I said, I'm osessed with this country for more than five years and I badly want to visit it. "Which town?"
"Melbourne."
"Okay, that makes it even more alluring."
"I really want you to come with us, otherwise you have to go to your grandparents."
"I don't know it's final year."
"Just think about it, you have time until the end of the holidays."
------------------------------
I couldn't fall asleep that evening, I kept thinking about the choice I had to make. I really wanted to go to Australia, but it was impossible to leave my friends. Although, six months was acceptable. I really didn't know what to do.
That morning I woke up with the solution: I could go three months to Australia and the other three to my grandparents. So I ran downstairs to suggest it to my parents. They said they had to think about it, but I could see at theirs faces they found it excellent. I also said I could visit them every holiday. I really hoped they would approve it.
