Hermione POV

I arch my eyebrows in confusion as I look to Draco, he seems just as confused as I am. I turn to Blaise who looked as though he could explode at any moment. What did he want? I guess we were going to find out.

“Blaise.” Draco says. He stiffens.

Blaise nods in response before he speaks. “I’m sure you get the general idea why we need to talk, it’s about Pansy of course, and why you need to pay for what happened.”

“He had nothing to do with it.” I felt my blood boil inside of me. I just knew that something like this was going to happen sooner rather than later. Blaise is too bitter to decide otherwise.

“Stop it.” Draco hisses. I could almost feel his anxiety and I knew he didn’t want me to be a part of this. But I wasn’t going to stand back and watch people condemn Draco for something that isn’t his fault.

“Oh the Mudblood is defending you.” Blaise sneers. “Are you in love with him or something?”

“Leave her alone!” Draco snaps. “Whatever you need to say, say it now. I’ve had enough of your bullshit to last a lifetime.”

Blaise takes a couple of steps forward and while doing so, my breathing stops. Draco remains unfazed. “She’s dead because of you. But you already know that.” The level of hate and venom in Blaise’s voice sickened me.

“Maybe that statement is true,” Draco says. “Punish me all you like, but you are not going to do it in front of her.” I knew he was referring to me, and I couldn’t believe what he was saying.

“Have you lost your mind?” I exclaim. “You can’t get punished for something you aren’t responsible for. He just wants to see you suffer more than you already have. Why can’t you see that?”

Draco takes a long sigh; he speaks with uncertainty in his voice. “This isn’t your fight. Pansy may still be here if it wasn’t for-“

“I’ve heard it all before and I still have the same answer for you.” I tell him desperately trying to ignore the intimidating figure looming in front of us. “She was mentally unstable. She is responsible for her own death, you aren’t. It’s not your fault if she couldn’t accept that you didn’t want to be with her.”

“You better watch that filthy mouth. You should listen to Draco, this has nothing to do with you.” Blaise snarls, fists clenched by his sides.

“Are you afraid to acknowledge the truth?” I challenge. “You definitely don’t seem stupid so you should know fully well that Draco had no involvement in Pansy’s death. You refuse you see her true state of mind, you’re just a coward seeking revenge to satisfy none other than yourself.”

“What did you just say to me you little bitch?” he says aggressively. I swallow a lump in my throat as he begins to walk towards me.

Draco is standing in front of me in seconds; he reaches his hands out and pushes Blaise back. “You are not going to touch her.”

“I wouldn’t bet on that.” He says, his gaze fixed firmly on me. “What makes you think you can cross me?”

I smirked. “Unless you from some sort of high privileged family then there’s no law stating that I shouldn’t stand up to you. I don’t care if you are Slytherin, I have no problem putting you in your place. You should be ashamed of yourself.”

I could have sworn I saw a slight smile on Draco’s face before it was replaced with rage. Blaise lunges for me, almost catching me in the process but Draco got hold of him. I stagger back in deep shock as I watch Draco and Blaise tackle each other to the ground. I look around me in desperate search of help but nobody was in sight.
