I don't know if anyone else knows this, but there is something called "LGBTQ+ panic legal defense" 

It exists. Sadly. Disappointedly.

This defense, in 38 US states, legally allows anyone who assaults or murders any LGBTQ+ member to claim they did it because they went into a state of mental confusion upon finding out that the person was trans, non-binary, or otherwise not heterosexual. In 38 STATES, this allows criminals who commit homophobic crimes to have reduced sentences or to get off scot-free.

Keep yourself calm, safe, and protected. Search for things you can do, contact representatives or people you know who can help ban this ridiculous defense. There are petitions out there, search for those and sign them. Help in any way you can.

Straight allies, please speak up. Email representatives, SPREAD THE WORD, sign petitions.

Find ways to keep yourself, and others, safe. Don't let this scare you, people are already trying to get this banned and things are being done. That doesn't mean you don't need to help, still sign petitions and spread the word if you can.
