The chair hurt my butt and I suddenly regret my rough plummet to the seat. The cafeteria was loud and busy, the noise agitating me.
Oh, how nice it would be to punch someone.
My fingers twitched as I clenched my hands into a fist and took a deep, steadying breath.
Inhale, exhale. Don't kill anyone, Des. Inhale, exh-
"Uh, excuse me?"
I can't even breathe in peace anymore. A scowl settled on my face as I opened my eyes, surprised to see a boy who looked nervous beyond words.
His hand was awkwardly scratching the back of his neck and his eyes were darting around, his foot tapped the floor repeatedly and a small blush dusted the freckles on his cheeks. He didn't look like he fit in here, amongst the delinquents, and yet here he was. It's always the shy ones that surprise you the most, I'm telling you.
Deciding this boy would probably pass out at the extent of my anger, I dropped my scowl slightly and spoke to him "What'd you need?"
His gaze remained on me then, like he suddenly realised I wasn't going to tackle and kill him. "I, uh- This is stupid. My friends dared me to come up and get your number..." The blush on his cheeks turned a brighter shade of crimson and I cracked a small smile. This wasn't what I was expecting from a supposed- delinquent.
"What's your name?" I nodded at the empty chair beside me and he eagerly sat down.
"I'm Ricky. Uh, Ricky Quin."
He awkwardly held out his hand and I shook it as I introduced myself, "I'm Desponia, you can call me Des." His palm was sweaty in mine but I didn't mind because the crescent moon scars on mine were still a little bloody.
He nodded an 'okay' before a small silence settled over us. I broke it a second later, "Well, come on, aren't you gonna ask for my number?" I smirked at his even deeper crimson blush, "I don't bite. Unless you want me to." I winked.
His whole face was practically a cherry and I couldn't stop the amused grin which slid onto my face.
"I- uh, can I.. Des, could I have your number?" He was so nervous it was endearing and different from what other guys I'd been around were like.
"Of course, Ricky. All you had to was ask." My hand reached out for his phone and he gave it over immediately.
I created the contact with my number and called myself 'Hotter than hot sauce'. No explanation needed.
When I handed it back to him I heard what I assumed were his friends cheering, "Thank you, Des. I owe ya." He smiled staring down at the contact.
Before he left back to his friends I leaned in and kissed his cheek and ruffled his hair, causing his friends to go wild, "You owe me more than one, pretty Ricky." I smirked and slouched back into my chair, scrolling through Instagram as he scurried away.

-"Oh Des!" A familiar voice sung from behind me.
I looked up from my phone to see Olly, Atlas and a grumpy Demetri. Maybe his face is just stuck like that. Shame.
"Olly! I see you survived English Lit all by your lonesome." I smirked as he rolled his eyes.
"Barely. It was horrific." He shivered and I chuckled at his level of dramatics. "Don't you be laughing, you promised me a cookie, remember?"
"Oh right, how could I forget."
"How're you liking your first day at Hawkling High, midget?" Demi's voice was a sharp contrast to the playful tone Olly's held. "Anyone bothering you?" He asked as he shoved a handful of fries in his mouth. His eyes flickered over to Ricky's table and then back to me.
My mouth watered.
For the fries.
"I- Uh no. No ones bothered me so far." My eyes followed the fries in his hand, distracting me from the nickname which- if I wasn't starving- would annoy me to no ends.
"Good." He mumbled, scooping up another fry.
A few seconds passed before Atlas snapped his fingers in front of my face and I realised all three of the boys were staring at me.
I stood up hastily, "Let me go get you that uh cookie, Olly."
Unfortunately for me, seeing as I'm not exactly good friends with speed, and the universe seems to enjoy making my life miserable, my leg got caught between the legs of my chair and I tripped. Landing face first on the ground.
It's funny really, I started the day on the floor and here I am again mere hours later.
This time was different though, this time there were witnesses to my clumsiness.
I got to my feet and looked around at the cafeteria which was silent except for the chuckles and giggles of the other delinquents. "I did that on purpose, your totally welcome guys!" I bowed and slowed my walk into a purposeful looking stroll, not allowing myself to turn and see the smug faces of the boys.
Their laughter did however chase me as I made my way over to the cookie stand. I wont ever live this down.
