People often ask are humans flight, fight or freeze animals? But I don't think it's that simple. Because at one point or another, I've acted each way. When I was a kid and faced fear, I froze. Because I didn't know better.
When I got older I learnt to run, to avoid my troubles as much as possible. And when I discovered running didn't necessarily lead to escaping, I learnt to fight.
To fight and not back down.
Over the course of my life I've faced many problems, some, I cant lie, caused by myself.
I just didn't expect to end up facing one of my oldest problems whilst waiting in the queue to buy a cookie.
You see, before I learnt the art of fighting I was a runner. And stood before me was no other than Casper Goldberg. A guy who, in the fewest words possible, wants to kill me.
Why?
We had argument and I may or may not have stolen his most expensive motorbike and crashed it into his pool... I also may or may not have knocked him out before he called the police on me... I also may or may not have stolen his left shoe and ran with it. Don't ask why because honestly it was a heat of the moment kinda thing and I couldn't tell ya.
Maybe he won't recognise me? I mean I've changed a lot since all this went down, he probably-
"Hey, you!" A way too familiar rough voice called.
Not me, not me, not me?
I turned to face him, rolling my eyes. Wishful thinking never works.
He looked exactly the same. Floppy ginger hair, narrowed green eyes and of course his stupid lip piercing. And... Oh- would you look at that, that's new, courtesy of me- a scar running from his nose to his jaw.
Damn I did good work.
"Didn't expect to see you here Cassy." I couldn't hold the smirk back whilst eyeing his scar.
"You fucking bitch." And that's all it took for him to pounce on me.
I just wanted to get a cookie, sheesh.
The ground was cold and hard. Obviously.
I could hear the chanting of voices "Fight! Fight! Fight!"
Well, if that's what you guys want.
I brought my knee up hard, buying me some time to get to my feet, as he did the same.
"You thought you could just get away with all that shit, you little bitch." He threw a punch my way, his fist slamming into my jaw. I wish I could tell you I ducked out of the way or that it didn't hurt but, damn that did not feel good. "You know how much that bike cost?"
Jeez. This guy holds a grudge.
Shaking it off, I threw a punch of my own, hitting him square in the nose. That satisfying crunch sent shivers down my spine. Oh, how I missed fighting.
"Watch your mouth Cassy, wouldn't want to end up out cold again, would you?" I mocked him, it's all about confidence.
I straightened my spine as his eyed me up and down, nothing but anger on his face.
Just as his fist extended in the direction of my jaw once again, another hand intercepted it- catching it before I received the blow.
"Excuse me! We're fighting here Mr-" I followed the arm up to the face of none other than Demi.
"Oh hey Demi." I grinned.
His cold eyes stared back and forth between me and Cassy, he seemed to be a little confused.
"Who the fuck are you?" Cassy spat as he snatched his hand from Demi's grasp.
"Could ask you the same question, ginger." Demi seemed to grow to the size of a giant as he stalked towards his prey.
I can fight my own battles. Not just fight them, win them. Consistently. But boy this will be entertaining.
Only a fool would put themselves between two angry males so instead I got myself a well deserved cookie and got ready to enjoy the show.
"Get of my way asshole." Cassy tried pushing against the weight of Demi but he didn't move an inch. Impressive. Eventually he stopped pushing, going to look Demi in the eye "I don't know why you're protecting this bitch but I can promise you it's not worth the struggle."
"You'd think a Goldberg would have more manners." I mumbled, taking a bite of my cookie.
"I don't have to explain myself to you. So why don't you just do yourself a favour and back off." Demi held his ground.
There was a few moments of silence before Cassy turned and walked away, chuckling as the crowd booed him. "This isn't the last you'll see of me Desponia Grey." I heard him announce before disappearing.
Wow. That was beautiful, very much 'i-have-a-nemesis' vibes. I think I'm gonna need to invest in a popcorn machine for my stay here.
Within minutes the crowd parted and everything was back to normal, except for the concerned faces of Atlas and Olly. Demi just looked frustrated and slightly on edge.
"You said no ones been bothering you." Demi stated. "Do you know him from the outside?"
"Oh, Cassy? Yeah. He just doesn't like me, it's really simple as that." I took another chomp of my cookie.
"Hey! That cookie belongs to me." Olly snatched the half eaten cookie from hands.
"Olly-"
"Desponia Grey. My office. NOW."
I guess in all the chaos I forgot to hide from Principal Wiley... Fuck.
Is it worse to run? Probably.
I turned slowly and was happy to see he'd shaved the other half of his 'stache. "Hey Principle Wiley, love the new look." I gestured to his lack of facial hair.
"My office. Now." He repeated.
"Okay, okay." I surrendered following behind the principle just as the bell rang for the next class, "Oo Atlas! Save me a seat in Chemistry!" I winked at him, smirking as his cheeks turned pink.
Such a cutie.
Hey everyone :)
I appreciate all the support recently!
This chapter took ages to get out bc of the 'fight' scene, who knew it'd be so hard to write 😅What did you think of this chapter? <3
