The city was more destroyed than I thought. Cars were slammed into each other and building were broken. Some of the walls were covered in blood and messages. Fires were started in some trash cans and street lights were broken. We hadn't seen a single walker. I smiled to myself and closed my eyes. The car came to a halt and the three guys pushed all of us out. Matt landed with a big thud and Beth fell on him. Henry had caught himself and helped Mary before she fell down. I kicked the guys away and got off myself.
"What the hell?" I shouted.
Matt covered my mouth and I turned to see why. A bunch of walkers were walking around ahead of us. The guy in the car grinned at us but his eyes turned dark.
"Every man for themselves." He said and honked his horn.
We all jumped out of the way as they drove away. the walkers turned and ran towards us. Beth tried to scream but I swiped her up and ran. We turned the corner and ran into an alley. I looked around and saw big rusty pipe.
"There's an opening right there. We can squeeze in but not everyone will make it in time." Matt said, opening up the wires.
Beth went in first and then so did Henry. Matt was next and Mary was about to go when the walkers caught up. They were coming straight to us.
"Mary, go!" I said, grabbing the pipe and getting ready to fight.
"No. I want to help." she said, grabbing the shovel from the bag.
"You can't! You'll get bit." I said, not taking my eyes off of the dead people.
Their jaws snapped at us as they continued to walk towards us.
"Nothing will happen if I get bit. Let me help." She said.
"You don't know that!" I shouted.
"Yes I do!" She said, stepping closer to me.
"How?" I asked, raising my arm to aim for the head.
"BECAUSE I WAS BIT AT SCHOOL AND NOTHING HAPPENED TO ME AT ALL!" She shouted, showing me her arm.
I gasped and tried not to look away from our attackers. A walker ran past me and towards Mary. Her eyes widened and she jumped back as he dove onto the floor.
"Forget it! I on't want to help anymore. I'll kill us both." She said, walking backwards.
"Mary you can do this. I may hate you for taking the guy I loved but you can do this." I said, smashing the head of a man.
"How?" She asked, dodging the man's hands.
"You wanted to know how I became a zombie hunter. I got a love bite too." I said, ripping off the cloth from my thigh and showing her the bite mark I had gotten a long time ago.
Mary gasped and then she smiled. she stared at the dead man as he tried to get up. She turned serious and let out a cry.
"Burn in hell you motherfucker!" she shouted, smashing his head.
Blood shot onto her skin as she ran through the crowds and smashed heads. I pushed the walkers into the walls as Beth cheered us on. for the first time I had met someone just like me. I wasn't the last of my kind anymore. We had killed the first row of walkers in a matter of minutes and I ran to get to the other side of the fence.
"You killed my parents. I didn't get to say goodbye to them. IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!" Mary shouted, and swung the shovel so hard that it swiped off the heads of three zombies.
I was amazed and felt guilty. I had given her a hard time for taking away my Henry but she, like everyone else, had lost her family. She might never see them again but that made her stronger. She ran and came with us to the other side of the fence. We all ran as the walkers slobbered onto the fence. We smiled at each other and tried to catch our breath. The truth had come out. We ran back onto the streets and fought. Mary was by my side and Henry and Matt were too. Beth stayed by Matt as Henry helped us out. They took turns watching over Beth as we fought our way out of hell. We came to the end of the city and wiped away the sweat. We were dirty, and stinky and alone. We had each other and we had our troubles but we also had survived. Before, I used to think that I didn't need anyone. When this hell first started I didn't care for anyone. I didn't want anyone around me. I thought being alone made me tough and would make my parents proud, but I had a family now. No one can replace my parents just like no one can replace everyone's families, but we had each other and that's all that mattered. That and surviving until mother nature sorted herself out. As we left that place, I couldn't help but go over the memories of our adventures. If this hadn't happened we wouldn't have meet Beth and I wouldn't have gotten to know Mary. I'm not saying I'm happy that this happened because I'm not. I'm just glad that we had gotten through all this. I didn't have a care in the world anymore. No one did, and that's what makes us fucking awesome. That makes us survivors.
