An Unlikely Partnership~Tododeku

21~ The Days We Spent Together

Todoroki woke up to a bright white ceiling and immediately sat up. When he adjusted to the light, his glanced around at his surroundings. A hospital. On the hospital beds around him were Zumishi, Bakugou, Kirishima and a man who probably was Zumishi's boyfriend. All of them in an unconcious stat.

I must have been the first to wake up... Todoroki grimaced and sat up, feeling a slight pain from the bruises in the falls. 

Swinging his legs over the edge of the bed, his feet his the cold tiled floor with a muted noise. When he was fully standing, Yaoyorozu and Jirou came rushing in quietly to check up on him.

"Shouto! Are you alright?!" Yaoyorozu had tears in her eyes as she clung onto her girlfriend for moral support.

Todoroki nodded. "Yeah, don't worry I'm alright." Then the events flooded back to him, the maze, the power, the fact that Midoriya didn't make it out. 

"Hey... Shouto! Shouto!" Jirou poked him with an earphone jack.

"Oh... Sorry, I must have zoned out for a second..." 

Yaoyorozu and Jirou exchanged worried glances. "Are you alright Shouto?"

Todoroki looked down at his feet, tears springing to his eyes. "C-can we talk about  t-this later... I-I can't do this right now..."

The girls nodded, taking this as a sign that they should leave and left. Then a nurse and a healer rushed in to check that he was all healthy. 

"Oh! Katsuma-kun! It's nice to see you again!"

Katsuma looked up and gasped. He was still very young, but was volunteering to help out at different hospitals since his quirk was so handy. "Todoroki-kun! I haven't seen you in ages! Is Deku-kun here too?"

"No..." Todoroki whispered out. "He's gone Katsuma.. He isn't coming back, e-ever..." He broke down into tears again, sunlight catching on the droplets which splattered onto his robe, the colour darkening.

Katsuma hung his head, very upset by the news he had recieved. "I'll... I- I'll leave you now... Have a good rest and... Heal sooner... I'm sorry about Deku..."

With that, Katsuma and the nurse both left, leaving the room still but filled with a sad kind of tension so heavy that if it was possible, it would crush all existence.

Eight days later, the five in the hospital had been released and the rest of Class A, their friends and teachers had come to greet them, but carried the sadness of a million hearts shattering in the northern snow-blown graveyards of Antartica.

(Wow Galaxie- So poetic (it's even sadder because it's like the only poetic thing I've written in over 2 years-))

They brought get-well-soon gifts that stood on the desks of Dynamight Agency's meeting room, flowers that sat in white ceramic pots, drooping with the heavy hearts of the givers, sweets that tasted bitter rather than sweet. The joy was muted by the death of one of them, a dear friend, hero, idol and part of society. Someone that left a gaping hole in the hearts of his friends, family and supporters. 

Melissa walked into the room and everything silenced as she cleared her throat. "Everyone, I want to talk to you..."

Soon, everyone was listening to Melissa, so she started to speak. "I know we've lost a dear friend/ family recently. I just want to say that I'm sorry for your loss. Midoriya had a great life with you guys and I'm glad I got to know him. I've brought some things I'd like to give you guys, so if possible, please step into the next room over one by one please!"

People entered the room one by one, each person coming out smiling and holding a little gadget. Finally it was Todoroki's turn right at the very end. 

"Hello Todoroki-kun! How are you doing?"

Todoroki shifted his weight between his legs. "I'm alright I guess..."

"Great! Here! Have this!" Todoroki looked down at the item in his hands. An interview invite.

"This is for tomorrow! You're going to attend an interview that is very important because you're going to clear up the recent event, or the event may stir up confusion and uncertainty in the country."

Todoroki nodded. "Thank you Melissa. You do think of things that are very useful, much more than I do..." With that, he walked out the door to rejoin the group.

When he was out of earshot, Melissa laughed softly. "Oh.. There's so much I have planned that you don't know..."

Todoroki had been suggested by his friends to create a journal for Midoriya with them. He agreed and they set to work with a journal with pictures, writing and diary entries.

The day they all spent at the beach in their second year. That one day when they went to Russia and got trapped in a cave in the middle of a giant snowstorm. The day they graduated from U.A. So many happy memories they had made together over the years, so many things to look back on and wish for in the present. It wasn't reality anymore. 

The reality was that Midoriya was dead and there was nothing that could reverse that anymore, not even the greatest magic in the world. They had two people they could save, and unfortunately, Midoriya couldn't be one of them.

Zumishi and her boyfriend frequently thanked the group with such gratitude that it always made them forget about Midoriya for a second before being thrown back into reality. Kindness now radiated off them, a feeling they always had with Midoriya. 

It was all different now. There was no symbol of peace to lean on, no sucessor or One For All, no one to hold the weight of society until someone had to step in, but they weren't ready for that. Not yet. They all hoped that one day there would be someone as great as Midoriya who would come along. But what they wouldn't know would be whether the person that came along to the position was who they hoped it would be. Midoriya, to come back to them. To bring back happiness to their worlds. 

Go beyond expectations everyone... Plus Ultra...

A/n- Hello! I may have miscalculated in my last chapter and said there was one chapter left and an epilogue, it's actually two, so after this chapter, there's one more left, and epilogue and possibly a thank you chapter!
