Move In Day

You weren't exactly too sure how'd you gotten here, but it was all too real to let yourself think you were dreaming.

On your way to move into your new dorm, car weighed down by your belongings. You got into your dream art college, majoring in your first choice option, film arts. Right now, the blasting of your favorite song in your ears, leaving them ringing slightly, was the only thing of importance.

There was no more waiting for your new life to begin away from your childhood home. Ecstatic to get out when you could, you couldn't take it anymore.

Though your middle school and high school years weren't in your favor most of the time, they were bearable enough to to get through alive. Which lead to being able to get into your top school. All you could hope for was that college would be better: new town, new living space, and a new start.

As you arrived onto campus, you found your dorm building. The table in front of it to sign in went quick enough, getting your room number and corresponding key by the end of it. Before bringing anything up from your car though, you found yourself opening a tall door on the third floor. One with the number (3-7) on it.

Knowing that you would have another roommate, you opened the door expecting someone to already be moved in, or at least to see other's belongings settled on one side of the room. To your surprise, no one was there yet. Just a small box of a room that had mirrored desks and dressers underneath lofted beds. A decent sized window and nightstand in between the them.

You continued to go from your car to your dorm while you brought in boxes and bags, back and forth tediously. Considering it was just yourself hauling everything, it definitely took longer than expected. Unloading almost all your belongings that had previously lived in your old home there. They found a new sanctuary in a newly built, hormone infested, Art Deco dormitory. As you started to decorate, you couldn't help but let your mind wander onto who you would be living with for the next school year. You had the choice of what genders you felt comfortable living with and even what majors, though the randomize button on the application became your best friend at that moment. The Universities attempt at inclusivity and getting to know different people made your life easier.

Just as you were brought into that thought bubble, it immediately popped when you heard the door leading to the hall open.

The first thing you noticed was the messy, muted purple hair on his head. Looking blatantly exhausted with a large box in his hands you quickly decided to help him with carrying it. Taking it from him completely, you put it down on his side of the room and figured this was probably your roommate. If not, a very awkward conversation was about to happen.

"Hello," You introduced yourself properly, first and last name to make sure. "I am gonna make a wild guess and say you're my roommate?" Reaching out for a handshake he took yours for the casual greeting.

"Hitoshi Shinsou, and yeah, I guess we're living together. What's your major?"

"Film arts with a minor in graphic design, what about you? Wait! If I had to take a guess, you look like an art history type of person to me." Giving him a small smile to let him know you weren't trying to be mean or anything, he only nodded.

"Actually, I'm majoring in photography, with a minor in art history." He said the last part a tad bit quieter than before, because he knew you were somewhat right in judging his character.

"Oh that's so cool, I love photography. At least now I know who to go to if I need some good pictures for instagram or something." You chuckled, partially to lighten any awkward air and show you were friendly, also because you knew you barely used instagram anyway.

You continued to offer your help to bring in some of his belongings. Which he, despite male stereotypes, graciously took. Once all of his stuff was brought in, you continued to decorate and he did too. Making casual conversation once in a while in between hanging of poster and unloading school supplies.

Before you knew it, late afternoon had come and it was time for dinner. A unanimous decision to order some takeout was made, you and Shinsou waited for it to get there in relative quiet. That is, until you decided to break it.

"Hey, sorry if this is too personal, but I couldn't help but notice that you looked really tired when you got here. I know we just met, but if you ever need to talk about anything I am a very good listener. At least that's what I've been told. You can also just tell me to shut it and I'll blame the under eye bags on your excitement to move in." He seemed to be taken back by your comment. Probably shocked at how you paid such close attention to him and how unafraid you were to ask about it.

"It isn't that big of a thing. I just have bad insomnia and I'm a night owl. So I am always tired during the day and run off of caffeine most of the time." That was all that he said until he went back to scrolling through his phone.

"Okay well, I'll leave you to yourself for a little. I'm probably bothering you with all of my talking and questions anyway." You hopped onto your feet quickly. "Imma go down stairs, the food should be here soon." Grabbing your coat and keys, you slipped on your shoes and gave him a small wave before leaving.

I feel bad, I was talking his ear off for the past few hours and he probably just wanted to be left for himself. He looked so tired I should have taken the hint.

You were so engulfed in your thoughts that before you knew it, you were standing outside. Still having an internal dilemma on how your first impression wasn't exactly the best in hindsight.

I honestly think that aesthetic kinda fits him, the whole broody thing. And even though he looks kind of like a vampire, he has a nice build, has some muscle on him. I mean he was carrying like three boxes with him the first time he entered the dorm...God, what am I thinking. I just met the man and I'm already analyzing him too much.

There was a free bench you decided to sprawl out on until your food arrived. Ten minutes went by, filled with idle scrolling through questionable tweets and funny memes, when the delivery finally came. Successfully taking you out of your thoughts. You made sure to tip the worker before you made it back to your dorm.

The door opened easily with your key, you found Shinsou wiping his hair with a towel while sitting at his desk when you walked through it. For an instant you couldn't help but to gawk at him. His hair flopping down now compared to its fluffy state from before.

Analyzing...intently.

Finally, you caught yourself and snapped out of it, announcing there was food and holding up the bag to prove it. It wasn't picturesque, you ate on the floor while Shinsou opted for his desk. Sharing a comfortable dinner together considering you were physically on different levels. This time the quiet that came was surprisingly nice.

And after you finished eating you decided it was a good idea to take a shower yourself. Bringing your belongings to the community wash rooms and enjoying the amazingly warm water, even if you'd have to get used to the shower shoes.

Once you got back to your side of the room, in nothing but your robe, you slipped on some underwear and pajamas underneath it. Taking it off and using it to dry your head after. The rest of your night was used wasting time, watching movies, anime, and reading. Until you finally fell asleep, content enough with your roommate and school.

Anything was better than where you were, anything.
