Every house is required to take dance lessons prior to the Yule Ball. I'm actually excited for the ball. I think it will be a right good time. The only drawback is that the head of each house is to give the dance lessons. I can't imagine Snape is a partially graceful dancer.
"The Yule Ball has been a tradition of the Triwizard tournament since its inception. On Christmas Eve night we and our guests gather in the great hall for well mannered frivolity. As representatives of the host school I expect each and every one of you to put your best foot forward. The yule ball is first and foremost... a dance," Snape tells us.
Most of the boys in the house groan. Fiona, Glinda, and most of the other girls smile in excitement.
"Silence!" Snape shouts. "I will not allow any of you in the course of a single evening besmirching the name of Salazar Slytherin by falling over each other like baby deer. Now I have the obligation to teach all of you how to dance." Snape states.
"I think this is worse than the sex talk Snape gave us in year three," I remark.
"Ms de Meath, will you join me," Snape instructs. I hesitantly stand up. "And Mr Malfoy."
Draco looks unsure as he stands up. Draco and I stand face to face knowing what is about to happen.
"Mr Malfoy, now place your right hand on Ms de Meath's waist," Snape instructs.
Draco looks at me for a moment before putting his hand on my waist. I hear a wolf whistle and I know it came from Apollo.
"Now bend your arm. Mr Filch..." Snape trails off. The music starts. "One two three, one two three, one two three."
Draco leads as we start to dance. I'm surprised that he knows what he is doing. I smile slightly.
"Everybody come together," Snape instructs.
As my friends and I walk through the courtyard Briar chases me down. "Jade!"
I turn to my friends. "You guys can go on."
They walk off as Briar finally reaches me. "I heard you beat up Apollo."
I shake my head. "I pushed him. I didn't beat him up."
"Was it because of me?" Briar asks.
There is no need to lie about it. "Yes."
"'Cause he asked me to the ball?" Briar questions.
"It's not that he asked you, it's that he didn't think to even mention it to me. I mean we've been friends since our very first day at Hogwarts," I state.
"So you're mad at him, not me?" Briar asks.
I groan. "I'm not even mad at him anymore. I'm upset that he couldn't just talk to me."
"If you don't want me to go with him I won't," Briar tells me.
I laugh lightly. "No. You should go with him if you want to."
Briar smiles. "Thank you."
I wrap my arm around Briar. "Let's go find the twins and we can have a family dinner."
Tonight is finally the night of the Yule Ball. I'm busting at the seams with excitement. All day Fi, Glinda, Briar, and I have been struggling to find ways to keep ourselves busy. Being Christmas Eve there were no classes leaving even more time for us to sit and wait. As it gets closer to the time my nerves start to get the better of me.
Fi hands me a bottle of whiskey. "You need to calm down."
"How can I calm down?" I take the bottle from her and take a sip. "This is a momentous night."
