I'm on my way to my mother's house with Melodie. Mom has been acting distant for a while now and it beginning to concern me. I don't know what's wrong with her or what's going on, but we are about to find out today

~~

I knocked on the door. I was greeted by an almost unrecognisable mother. She looked Really skinny and pale, her once full afro was half dead. Who is this lady and what has she done with my mother? She pulled me into a hug, then she did the same with Mel.

"Come in, come in" even her voice sounded different. The house was a bit messy, which is very unusual because she is a clean freak.

~~

She sat at the head of the dining table and we sat next to her. No one has said anything to her yet.

"Mom, how have you been?" I asked, she had a nervous look on her face.

"I've been good" Mel narrowed her eyes at her, not believing a word she just said.

" Are you sure, because I think you're hiding something" she stated, sitting up in her seat.

"No, really I'm fi-"

"You're lying" I interrupted. She is lying and I know it.

"I'm not l-"

"Mom, we love you, we want the best for you. Something I definitely wrong and we know it, so there is no use lying"

She sighed deeply "okay, I have been hiding things. I didn't want to worry you"

"You can't hide things from us" Melodie explained.

"Well, a couple of months ago.." she paused and took a deep breath. "A couple of months ago I was diagnosed with lung cancer" she looked down at her lap, not wanting to make eye contact.

"Ms Warren, how could you not tell us something like this?" Mel asked. I was frozen. My mother Has cancer and for whatever reason, she didn't think she could tell me. My heart shattered; a stray tear fell from my eyes, but I didn't bother wiping it. Am I that bad of a daughter, this is my fault, I should have known, I should have been there with her. Right by her side, but I was too busy falling in love, to even care.

"Val?" Mel called out to me but, I don't think I could function.

"Valerie, I'm sorry, I just didn't want to worry you, with y-" why would she think, that. I could never be too busy for her. Mel was hugging her, but I couldn't move.

"And, the doctors said-" she better not say what I think she's about to say.

"The doctors said that the chemo, doesn't seem to be working and I don't have much time" she whispered, but I heard everything.

My vision blurred as my eyes filled with tears.
