I pulled out the chair for Val, then I sat down in mine. The waitress approached us, "I'm Piper and I'll be your waitress this evening." She placed our menus in front of us "I will back to take your orders" Piper left us alone and went away. I secretly watched Valerie observe her menu before I actually looked through mine. I am nervous as shit.
Piper came back ready to take our orders. "What will the lovely couple be having?"
"Spaghetti," we both said in unison. We looked at each other surprised, then laugh.
"We'll both have a plate of spaghetti and your finest wine-"
"I will just take water" Val interrupted. Strange, she usually gets wine.
"Okay, I'll be back with your orders."

"That spaghetti was good" she announced.
"Yeah, we have to come here again"
A silence grew between us. I guess now was the right time.
"Val, I have something important to ask" I announced
"Me too" now I was confused. What if she wants to break up, right when I am about to propose.
"Okay... you go first," I said.
"No, you go ahead," she said sheepishly.

I looked up at Val, mirroring her facial expression, all while I am on the floor kneeling with a diamond ring in my hand.
"I'm going to be a dad?" she looked at me teary-eyed and nodded her head yes. Without thinking I got up and hugged her. I didn't notice we had an audience until people started clapping.
