I have kicked myself every day since Morgan left. I know I broke her heart and I thought I was doing a good thing.

I know Morgan is a free bird and I thought letting her go that she would understand.

I didn't have a choice when it comes to staying here. I have to take care of mom and continue to pray that Jessa comes out of this.

This has been the longest time that I've ever gone without talking to Jessa.

Sitting in this room watching her not respond and hooked up to so many machines is killing me.

The doctor is supposed to come to talk to me and let me know what's going on with her brain.

I pull out my phone to text Morgan and then I hesitate because I know she's still mad at me and she told me that I broke her heart and that wasn't even my intention.

I look through my phone at pictures we took together and I can't erase them. As soon as mom and Jessa are better I'm heading back to Myrtle and get my girl.

The doctor walks in with a chart in his hand. "Mr. Cain I'm your sister's doctor and I want to go over her scans with you."

"Thank you for meeting with me," I said.

"Her brain activity is great and the swelling is going down and hopefully in a matter of days she will wake up and once she does we can reassess her and go from there." He said.

"Well that all sounds good. Thank you for speaking with me." I said.

As soon as the doctor walked out of the room I walk over to Jessa and lean down and kiss her forehead. "Come on Jessa wake up for your favorite brother."

I sit back down in the chair for a little while and I decide to text Morgan and let her know how it's going.

She responds right away.

📱I hope she improves soon Trace.

I read those words over and over and just smile because even though she's hurt she still cares.

I kiss Jessa on the forehead again and head back to the house.

Once home I tell mom everything the doctor said and she smiled. "I'm so happy Trace I've been so worried but Jessa is tough she will pull through." She said.

"I'm going to go make hamburgers mom," I said.

My phone beeped and well no one texts me so I look at my phone and am surprised to see it's Kash.

📱Trace just wanted to check in with you and see how your mom and sister are doing?

📱Thanks for asking Kash. My mom is doing great and my sister has brain activity and they drained fluid off today and hoping she wakes up in a few days.

📱That's awesome news! Look I know things went sideways with Morgan but I'd like to keep in touch.

📱I appreciate that Kash and well I did what I thought was best for Morgan. I never wanted to hurt her or break her heart. She took my heart with her.

I put the meat in the pan and can't believe that Kash texted me. I wish he could talk some sense into Morgan to know that I didn't mean to hurt her.

I put some fries in the oven and finished cooking the burgers and cut up some lettuce, tomato, and onion. Got out the cheese and ketchup and pickles in case mom wants any of it.

I walk out to the porch... "Mom this is about ready if you want to come to fix your burger."

"Be right there Trace." She smiled.

I flipped the burgers a few more times and took them out of the pan and onto buns.

"This smells delicious Trace thank you." Mom said.

"You're more than welcome mom," I said grabbing the fries out of the oven and put them on our plate.

"Let's go back out and sit on the porch and eat together," Mom asked.

"Sure you go ahead and I'll be out in a min with drinks mom."

"Ok, I'll take your plate out then." She said.

I grabbed drinks and walked out over to the table. "So umm just a bit ago Kash texted me."

"He did?"

"Yeah wanted to know how you and Jessa was."

"Well, that was nice of him Trace."

"Yeah, he said even though things went left with Morgan to just call if I needed anything."

"Wow! Well, you better go get your girl back before someone snatched her up." She said.

"Mom she said her heart is broken and she can't forgive me yet. I sent her two dozen roses last night."

"That was nice of you to do Trace but you need to go back in person." She said.

"I know and I will soon mom. I just need Jessa to wake up and be better first."

We finished eating and I was in the kitchen cleaning up when my phone rang.

📞Hello?

📞Mr. Cain this is the hospital and the doctor wanted to let you know that your sister just regained consciousness.

📞Oh wow! Ok, thank you for calling I'll be right there.

📞Yes, she's asking for you.

📞Thank you! Bye.

"Mom Jessa is awake and asking for me!"

"Oh thank Jesus! Go go tell her I love her." Mom said.

"I'll be back later. Love you, mom." I said grabbing her keys and running out the door to her car.

When I get to the hospital and Jessa's room I was so excited. When I walked in the door she smiled at me.

"About time you got here big brother," she said.

"God it's so good to hear your voice and see your eyes. I have really missed you." I said.

"I had good sleep." She laughed
