CW: Blame
---

No matter how deep Kai swam
The water did not affect her
The salt water
Did not fill her lungs
Her ears popped and rang
But she continued to swim farther
She was cursed at birth
To be a water genasi
Maybe just a little further
And finally she'd be at rest
Just like everyone else
Better to be with them in death
Than be the lone survivor

Perhaps Kai should have listened to cautionary tales
And believed in superstitions
If she had
Then this would never have happened
If she could have kept her emotions in check
The storm would never have appeared
After all
That's what she'd heard her whole life
A water genasi can bring smooth sailing
Or the most hellish storms

Kai had brought this upon Amaia and the rest of the crew
She should have just stayed on that old ship of hers
Stayed with that crew and waited for the storm to find her there
She should never have abandoned ship
And ran away
Just because she wanted to see how freedom tasted
She should have never followed Amaia
Back to the ship
Should never have told
The captain her name
Should never have accepted the offer
Of being part of the crew of pirates
Should have never developed feelings
For the First Mate

If only, if only, if only
If only Kai had listened and adhered
If only Kai had kept her emotions in check
If only she hadn't been cursed to be a water genasi
Then she'd still be with Amaia
Either in life or death
Kai didn't care
As long as she was with Amaia
