chapter 8

I stood in front of PacSun, waiting for the boys to be finished. I was already done shopping there, but of course Jack, Johnson, Sammy, Nate and Nash all had to by a million things. Mia and Sophia had left to go make out somewhere or something, so here I was, all alone. I don't really care for shopping, but it was a rainy day and apparently I need to re-vamp my closet. That's how Nash put it. I guess I could go for a few more pairs of black heels and tight tops.

I looked around, simply people watching. A cute boy passed by, looking around our age. Probably from the university or something. He smiled at me as I popped my bubblegum, licking my lips. He turned away, looking a little shocked. I love my effect on people, I smiled to myself.

I felt my phone buzz and I quickly pulled it out of my short pocket. Hayes. I picked up, placing my phone to my ear.

"Hayes. How are you?"

"Hey. Uh, I'm okay, I guess." He said. Just by the tone of his voice I could tell he wasn't normal.

"I heard you're having a rough time." I bit my lip.

"I'm literally alone. Shawn's more distant then ever, no one lives close enough to come visit and I don't get invited to as many senior parties as I used to." He mumbled. "Skylynn is basically my social life right now." I heard her giggle in the background. I hear the misery in his voice.

"Hayes, that sucks. I'm sorry. I so wish I could be there with you, or at least be a little closer."

"Whatever, I'll be fine. Girls still love me, and there's still parties every Friday." I chuckled at him. "I serious though. I don't have anyone to go to the lake with, I don't have anyone to drive for hours with, I don't have my big brothers and sisters anymore. I can't just show up at Sammy's to go swimming anymore. I can't just walk over to your place when I feel sad. I can't just ask Gilinsky for a joint, or Carter for a drink. Cam's not over 24/7 anymore, and obviously Nash isn't. I never realized how quiet home is without him." He said, I bit my nails. I missed that too. Being all together as a family.

"I miss it too, bud. Let me tell you, college is overrated." I half-lied.

"Really?"

"I mean, it's okay. But I guess, college just isn't a big family. High school was. You're not missing that much." I said honestly.

"You're not missing too much here. School still sucks." He sighed.

"Speaking of school, aren't you supposed to be there?" My motherly side coming out. Hayes was smart, he has good potential. He shouldn't be wasting it like me and some of the others.

"Yeah, but I'm out back. I just got bored." Now, it was my turn to sigh.

'Well, try to get back in soon." I said. I couldn't get mad at him, that would be so hypocritical.

"Whatever."

"Maybe we'll visit soon?" I half asked, half told.

"That would be amazing." I could hear him smiling through the phone. Yeah, a trip down memory lane would be nice.

"See you soon Grier." I smiled.

"Catch ya later, Baird." I hung up just as the boys walked out of the store with ginormous shopping bags.

"Who was that?" Asked Nash, nodding his head towards the phone.

"Your brother. He misses us. A lot. We gotta visit him soon, okay?" I said. Nate looked a little lost, but he was still a little high from the few blunts we smoked earlier.
