Ada still was annoyed at Carl when she was babysitting Abigail. I mean, why would he go off like that to her? But then, she went off on him as well. Ada knew it would blow over but his words still hurt. But then again, Ada also knew her words hurt him too - even if Carl would never admit it.

But, Ada wanted to be mature and decided she'll still hang with Carl and Debbie and if he's still upset with her, she'll just talk to Debbie instead. That was in an hour and a half, Ms. Samson had to run a few errands without Abigail, which meant in the Southside, she was probably shooting up heroin.

Ada didn't ask questions she didn't want to know the answers from. Her mom taught her that when she was six, right before she went off on a bender from December to February.

"Ada, play dolls with me!" The eight year old girl said.

Ada smiled and nodded. She sat down on the floor, the blonde girl giving her a doll, and waited for her next instructions.

Ada was probably the most reliable babysitter in the Southside. The teen had five reliable clients: Abigail, Luke, Jax, Mia, and Penny.

It was about an hour and a half later when Ms. Samson stumbled into the door, her daughter having no clue what this meant. The woman wobbled her way towards Ada and pulled out her wallet.

"Thannnk you for watching-gg Abby." The woman stutters. "H-here is your money, 20 bucks should d-do it."

If it was any other day, Ada would ask if she could watch the child some more, rather than not leaving a child in their care of a high or drunk parent. But, Ms. Samson still could walk and talk a bit so she was sorta fine.

"Well, uh, thank you. I'll see you soon, Abigail." Ada says as she walks out the door.

She desperately wanting to make amends with Carl.

Ada walked towards the teen's usual hang out and sure enough, Carl and Debbie were there.

"Hi." Ada says nervously as she goes to sit next to Debbie, away from Carl.

"Hey!" Debbie greets while Carl turns his head to the side. "Ian is like really weird right now, kinda crazy."

"Shit, really?" Ada asks. "Maybe he's drunk?"

"Probably." Debbie agrees. "Anyways, I hung with Derek today!"

"No one cares, Debbie." Carl finally says, speaking up.

"I do." Ada says.

"Never asked what your opinion is." Carl snarks back, finally looking at her.

"I don't need your permission, Carl."

"Ah, that's funny, kinda like I don't need yours with my job either."

"That's totally diff-"

"No it's not!"

"Uhm yeah it-"

"Enough!" Debbie speaks up, cutting off the two best friends. "I'm literally in the middle of you guys, and you're screaming my ears off. I don't care why you're arguing but right now, act like you like each other and shut up!"

They chose to shut up.

"Anyways, I can't believe you hooked up with those two." Debbie begins, pointing at Holly and Ellie. "Ellie's so gross."

"Once you get past the c-scar, it's all good." Carl says.

"I gotta start bulking up, start juicing." Debbie announces.

"Why?" Ada asks, picking at her ripped shorts.

"I need the money." Debbie answers.

"Get in line." Carl says.

"You have a job." Ada says.

"I owe my boss a hundie." Carl answers. "I can make it at the dog fights tonight if I put enough cash down."

"Dog fights?" Ada asks, not really knowing if she wants the answer.

"People pay to see anything bleed."

"How much will they pay for a catfight?" Debbie asks, looking back at Holly and Ellie.

"We can get bets?" Ada asks.

"I'll go ask around, you too Ada." Carl says as they get up and start going to different people around them.

"Fine." Ada says. "Does that mean we're good?"

Carl stays silent for a moment. "I don't know, sure, whatever." And turns to walk the other way towards some people.

You're so confusing sometimes. Ada thinks.

After getting bets and money down, it seemed like everyone thought Holly and Ellie, mostly Holly, were gonna win. Ada put down Debbie, 100% she would beat the skank's asses.

"Everyone's betting against you, even at 20 to 1." Carl says to Debbie.

"Good, we'll clean up."

"They said they'd pay extra if you made out with one of the girls first." Ada tells her.

Debbie scoffs, "No way."

The redhead walks towards Holly and Ellie, Ellie asking, "What do you want, tampon head?"

Immature slut. Ada thinks. She's standing next to Carl who has his phone out videoing the girls. They're about the same height and there's obviously no good tension between them, anyone can see it. Usually when they're together, their two peas in a pod, but ever since this morning, they look like two strangers who were forced to stand next to each other.

"Just need to know you're I.C.E."

"Ice?" Asks Holly.

"In case of emergency, who the EMT should call when they take you to the hospital!" And just like that, Debbie grabs Ellie's hair and knees her in the face as Ellie falls to the ground.

"What did you do to Ellie?" Holly frantically asks.

"She got off easy!" Debbie snarks as Holly tries to punch her, Debbie easily missing the punch and punching her back for the blonde to fall to the floor.

Ellie gets back up and Debbie finishes the fight off with a punch to the already bloody nose.

Ada was hella impressed with her friend. She won the bet.

"Whoa!" Carl says.

Debbie happily walks towards her friend and brother and hardly can contain her excitement. She showed the two skanks at the park today that they shouldn't mess with her.

"Holy shit!" Ada says. "You did so good!"

"Thanks!"

"Derek must be a good teacher." Ada says shocked.

"He is." Debbie agrees. "You have the video?" She asks Carl and he nods. "Great! Send it to like everyone."

"K." Carl says.

"I gotta go, I'm going to tell Derek! See if I can catch him at the gym." Debbie announces, speeding away.

This left Ada and Carl alone for the first time since the morning. The awkwardness filling the now vacant air.

Ada speaks up, "I'm sorry." Catching Carl's gaze, she starts. "I shouldn't have said what I said, I'm just worried about you."

"It's okay." Carl accepts. "I shouldn't have said the things I said either. You're like family to me, Ada, no joke." This earned him a smile from the girl. "I'm glad you're in my life." He admits.

This earned him an even bigger smile, "Who knew you were such a sap?" She jokes. "I'm happy you're in my life too."

"Shut uppp, I'm no sap."

"Sure, Carl. You're the biggest one I know." Ada sarcastically says.

Carl rolls his eyes and puts his arm around her shoulder, "Let's go home."
