AHSOKA TANO

As the briefing that had dragged on for hours was reaching its end, Ahsoka inexplicably felt like she was about to fall asleep. She was zoning in and out of focus, and suddenly remembered that she still wasn’t completely well. That was probably the reason behind the sleepiness, as there was no other explanation.

She heard Zaydn ask her what her thoughts were on something, but it didn’t register. But when his tone became more insistent.

“Master Tano?” he said.

Suddenly alert again, she said, “I’m sorry, Zadyn. I’m still not completely over the coma, and I’m a little distracted. You were saying?”

Some of the people there exchanged looks. “No, I’m sorry, Master Tano,” he said after a moment. “We’ve probably pushed your limit. I forgot that you might not quite be yourself again yet.”

She nodded. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I believe I will retire. May the Force be with us all.”

The meeting adjourned, Lux came over to her. “Are you feeling all right? Maybe we should go back to your room.”

“No, I need to talk to someone first,” she said. “I’ll meet you back there in a few minutes, okay?”

“I can’t.” His face fell. “I have Lookout duty, and it’s actually in the cabin outside this time. I won’t be back until after you’ve fallen asleep.”

“I’ll wait up.”

He shook his head. “No, you need to get as much sleep as you can, Ahsoka. I’ll see you tomorrow, okay?”

“Okay. But I still don’t like the amount of sleep you’re getting, between spending nights with me and the Lookout.”

“I know.” He kissed her on the forehead. “See you.”

“See you.” She watched him go, then when he had had rounded the corner and was out of sight, she made a beeline for Commander Cody.

“Cody, I need to speak to you,” she said.

He turned around, and the other two officers he had been talking to left. “Can I be of service, General?”

“Do you know where Rex is? I need to speak to him. He might know where Anakin and Christopherus went.” She watched his every move carefully. Unknown to him, she was testing him.

“My apologies, General. He said that he wasn’t feeling well. I came to the briefing in his place.”

“Okay.” Now it was time to unveil her secret weapon. She was a good liar, and made it look like she believed him. Then she made her true feelings known. “Don’t lie to me, Cody. I know you’re trying to protect him, but I can see through it.”

He sighed. “Sorry, sir. It was General Skywalker who had me do it. He said that although he left you a note, it didn’t say anything about Rex or General Kruger going with him, so–”

“Wait, Anakin left a note? I never got one!”

Cody’s eyes widened a little. “He said… He said that he left it on top of your fighter, and that you would find it when you were able to walk again. Rex told me that General Skywalker had a feeling that you would be up and running again soon.”

“He was right,” she said, thinking aloud. “Cody, did Rex or Anakin tell you where they were going? I tried tracking their comlinks, but I can’t get anything. I even tried to lock onto the fighters’ magnetic signals. Nothing’s working.”

After a paused, he spoke again. “I don’t know where they went, but General, if there’s anything I can do to help, I’m happy to–”

“No, Cody, it’s all right,” she interrupted. “I’m just… thinking out loud. Trying to analyze every possibility. You can go. I have something to look into.”

As he left, she turned on her heels and stalked off in the other direction. She was going to see Amni. It was time to get another few questions answered.
