Keefe
Keefe smiled over at Sophie, watching her sing in the firelight. Her eyes were closed, and he could tell she was at peace. The rest of the night, he sat there and told jokes, talking and laughing with the others in their biome.
Eventually, their grove was the only group left, and then they snuffed out the last embers of the fire and headed back to the cabins.
That night, the mood was celebratory, yet tired. Everyone fell asleep slowly, all of the lights turning off even before lights out.
The next morning, it was a Monday, but with none of the usual foot dragging. Breakfast was pretty simple, which was a good thing because only the youngest kids had made much of a mess and they were cleaning up.
Thankfully, soon they were back at the obstacle course. Technically, they were supposed to be playing games, but since nobody else was using it, they were there.
Keefe looked around, wondering where Sophie was in the system of wires, logs and floating platforms. Despite looking like a large wasp's nest, everything was safe. Still, he wanted to make sure she was okay.
"Boo!" Sophie's face peeked down at him from the small platform a little above him, accessible by a swinging rope.
It was one of the lower platforms, so the harness wasn't needed and there was a foam pit below. "Looking for something?" she asked teasingly.
Keefe shook his head. "C'mon, then! We still have another hour to run around here before lunch."
Sophie climbed down and wandered off, Keefe following her. When he had first seen the huge thing, he had been surprised that they weren't at stations helping the campers.
However, the age rules stated that as long as the campers knew what to clip on and how to stay safe, the campers of their grove could explore on their own, deciding what they were comfortable with for themselves.
Sophie was almost like a spider monkey, and more than a few times Keefe was glad for the harness.
Eventually, she began to run around with Alex and Sadie, and Keefe fell back to follow from below with Magnus and Carter. The three daredevil girls were racing around, helping each other climb and flip across the most difficult courses.
The harnesses seemed to be wings in their hands. A few times, he found himself holding his breath in horror or anticipation as one of the girls stumbled slightly or just barely landed on one of the platforms, almost needing to lean on the harness to step all the way up.
Percy
Percy trudged towards the dining hall for lunch, regretting the fact that they had to stop so soon. He had been having fun, watching the others in their grove above him and ambling across the center of the dome.
Lunch was a pasta bar, and he piled bacon onto his plate. He got a few looks from the counselors, who hadn't touched any meat.
Strange. Percy had to pay more attention. Both of the counselors were vegetarians, and he only learned that today!
After lunch, they headed down the same dirt road they had a few days earlier when they first met their horses. Percy walked up to his horse's pen and called out a greeting to her before getting his helmet. Leading Coral down to the grooming station, Percy methodically went through the steps to get ready for the day's lesson.
Carter was the last one to finish, which shouldn't have surprised him, as the other boy was very careful in everything he did. The mood in the arena was jovial as Sophie led the group through an obstacle course one at a time, making sure everyone could turn their horses, and knew how to stop, start, redirect the horse's head, or speed up to a trot.
Percy had a bit of trouble with the turns until Sophie told him to put slightly more pressure with the leg on the side he wanted to turn to. Eventually, they had to go back to the grooming stations again and walk their horses back.
It was sad to say goodbye, but Percy was also extremely excited for the craft today, which was rumored to be some sort of prank.
When they walked up to the small building, Dex was standing next to a table with nine bags of what looked like quarters and nine bottles of superglue. Percy smiled when he saw the mischievous look on the craft leader's face. Pranks it was.
Alex
Alex smiled as Dex explained.
"The second grove made these wooden quarters. They look a lot like the original, so what we're going to do is superglue them to paths, rocks, any surface that isn't a building, bench or live thing!"
That was definitely Alex's cup of tea, and when Dex told them to buddy up, she dragged Magnus behind her. Her boyfriend was more morally inclined, but even he was having fun once they glued one of the quarters to the sidewalk right where the masterminds of aliens and unicorns night would see it.
Revenge was definitely sweet. Alex smiled when she saw Sophie and Keefe jog down a path to find a new place to glue a fake quarter, Sophie shrieking with laughter as Keefe threw one of the wooden circles, which hit her in the back of the head, bouncing back towards Keefe.
They really would be a perfect couple, and in that moment she decided she was all-in for Parent Trapping their counselors.
The next eight weeks promised to be very interesting, but first... first she would finish pranking the younger campers. She was related to Loki, after all!
Yup. Sokeefe fluff, an evil prank, and horses. Pretty nice filler, and I hope you liked it :)
