Elizabeth's pov.

I stumbled back, holding my head I my hands. The blows always hurt, but today was worse. Dad was still holding the half of the empty bottle in his shaking hands, blood and shards mixed on the floor at my feet.

I whimpered and turned, avoiding another hit, running out the door just in time as the rest of the bottle hit the wall behind me. It wasn't even my fault.

I ran down the dirt path, my only thought was to get away from my father. He wasn't going to change. Neither was my stupid fucking life. Why was everything so horrible?

I entered the forest, the only thing that gave me true peace anymore. I gave up cutting a long time ago. I knew better. So now the forest was my therapy. I loved the trees and the serenity of it all.

I decided to go to my special log, since it was the best little clearing in the whole forest, to my knowledge. It was tranquil and special.

As I came close to the spot, I heard humming. Someone was there? How and why? I got closer to the sound. A man's voice was humming "somewhere over the rainbow," but I wasn't sure why.

I peeked through the bushes and gazed upon a man with his eyes closed sitting on my log. He had jet black spiked up hair and a leather jacket. His black glasses sat on the end of his nose, which a piercing also adorned. He had some tattoos and piercings in random places. He was actually really quite hot, to be honest.

I walked closer towards him, looking at his ripped jeans and top half of a tee shirt, the bottom half of which had been severed. It appeared to by wrapped around his arm, for some reason.

"Excuse me, sir," I said, causing him to jump. "Why are you here?"

"Because," he replied, looking at the ground again. His voice was deep and smooth. I sat down next to him.

I glanced down at the half a shirt wrapped around his arm and realized there was no pattern. It was blood I was seeing.

"Oh shit! You're bleeding! Let me help!" I exclaimed. I grabbed his arm gently and unwrapped the rag to reveal several small cuts on his right arm.

"It's nothing," he said, quickly retracting his arm. I gave him a look and he handed it back to me.

"Why do you cut?" I asked. He looked at a tree in front of us.

"Because I am sad. And I am alone. I am always going to be alone," he said. A tear fell down his cheek. I wiped it away.

"My name is Elizabeth," I said, reaching into my back poker and producing a little wash rag. I dipped it into a little clear puddle and dabbed it at his arm.

"My name's Mark," he replied.

"You aren't alone, Mark," I continued. "I know how you feel. Perhaps I know better than anyone else, but you can get passed this. I used to cut too. When my mom died of cancer, dad started drinking. He's a violent man."

I let go of Mark's newly bandaged arm and lifted the back if my shirt to show the scars from the belt. The blood on my head from the bottle had stopped, but I told Mark about everything that happened.

"Being alone isn't something we are given. It's not other peoples' choice to not hang out with you. Being alone is our choice. We can change it ourselves. And we don't ever have to be alone again. Mark, you just say the word and I'm going to be here. I promise you won't have to cut and feel that pain. And we can get through the lonliness together."

"Elizabeth. You are so beautiful," he said. It caught me off guard. I felt the blush come up to my cheeks. He continued. "And I know I only just met you, but..."

There was a short pause. I was going to ask him what he meant, when all of a sudden, he lunged forward and locked his mouth into mine in a fiery hit kiss. Our lips moved in synche for a while before he slipped his tongue into my mouth. Our tongues danced there for a while.

It was only after a couple minutes that we pulled away for breath. I gasped a bit. What was that? Did he just kiss me for real? Was this a dream? No it was real. But he was so hot... ok now I was confused.

"So..." he said, breaking the silence. "You wanna do this again sometime?"

"Oh, god yes," I replied. He then pulled me back into another kiss.

Mark is to this day one of my very best "friends," if you know what I mean.

End.
