The Cure Page 19

The science laboratory was full of silence despite the walkers banging on the boarded window from earlier, you stared at your wrist which showed a bite mark and from the zombie no less. 

Your facial expression shifted from worry to composed while you tried to stay strong then looking at Dekapan and Dayon as you questioned, "Is there a cure yet?"

Their faces of disappointment looked at you but Dekapan reassured, "We will try to find the cure soon, this is our life work", you stared at him then a small smile appeared on your face. 

"Thank you, Dekapan", you commented then looked at Dayon and thanked him as well, your eyes turned to Knight who whined with sad puppy dog eyes. 

You approached him then patted his head gently with a smile on your face as you whispered, "Thank you for helping me" then your eyes shifted to your six zombie companions. 

They looked undead like the other zombies but you could tell that they felt upset about your wrist, your smile did not fade as you approached them and reassured, "I will be alright, we will survive together." 

The six zombies groaned in response then you noticed that Oso walked slowly towards you and wrapped his arms around you, it was cold but no matter what, you knew that his heart was warm. 

Oso was not the only one who embraced you, the other five joined in with their arms around you and surrounded you like a herd of zombies without biting. 

Your arms could not embrace all of them but you still felt a connection of warmth through their tight hug, they slowly retracted from the hug and you looked at Dekapan. 

"What should I do now?", you asked him and without hesitation, he answered, "You should rest up, if you show any symptoms then report it immediately." 

You nodded then agreed, "I will rest in the same bedroom before", you turned your back but before you returned to your room, you turned to look at the six zombies as you spoke softly, "Thank you for being by my side, you can come check on me if you want to." 

Then you headed into the room and approached the bed with Knight following behind you, you laid on the bed as Knight sat down on the floor with watchful eyes on you. 

Your eyes closed shut as you fell into a deep slumber, your heart race still beating at the average pace and your body relaxing normally above the bed. 

The six zombies were still in the laboratory as they watched you entering the room, Dekapan approached them as he smiled, "You all feel responsible, don't you?"

Oso groaned, "Sorry…", Dayon and Dekapan looked at each other with smiles plastered on their faces then Dekapan looked at them while suggesting, "How about helping us create the cure for your friend?"

Ichi looked at him then pointed at himself as he groaned, "..Help?...", Dayon reassured, "Of course, help yon", he patted Ichi on his back. 

Then Dekapan instructed, "Let's get working", he headed to the lab table and examined the different blood samples he had in the test tube rack. 

Dayon allowed Oso, Kara and Choro to check if the windows were properly sealed and the doors were shut tightly closed, then he allowed Ichi, Jyushi and Todo to clean any broken glass or place scientific instruments in their proper places. 

Dekapan noticed that the random zombie blood and your blood mixing together, creates another zombie which was not the cure so he tried to test the blood samples of the six zombies. 

He grabbed the test tube with reddish black blood from Oso then mixed your blood with his in a breaker, the color of your blood and his mixed and created the same color as human blood. 

Dekapan gasped as he quickly used a pipette and placed the new blood sample on a small glass panel, under the microscope, he noticed that the blood was shaped like donuts with the same color of human blood. 

Then he tested the same with Kara's blood sample and mixed it with your blood which resulted in blue blood, he placed it on a glass panel and under the microscope, the blood was like donuts but the color was blue. 

Dekapan noticed something important beside the coloring, both blood samples conquered the zombie disease completely and the blood was just like an average human. 

He tested the other blood samples to make sure his discovery was correct and he was stunned to see that the blood did the same thing as Oso's and Kara's blood, so he concluded, "Finally, I think this is the cure."

Then Knight came running out of the room in a hurry, he approached Dekapan and bit on his lab coat with a tug that led straight towards your room. 

Dayon and the six zombies noticed so they all followed Dekapan as he entered your room and saw that you were sweating, breathing heavily while clutching your hands tightly. 

Dekapan rushed to your side and he grabbed your wrist gently, his eyes noticed that your blue veins were showing more as you continued to fight the infection in your body without opening your eyes. 

"Dayon, prepare the syringe with one of the six zombies' blood", Dekapan instructed his partner who hurriedly gathered the samples, the six zombies gathered around and concern filled their lifeless hearts as they looked down at your trembling figure. 

Ichi covered you with his jacket while the others continued to watch you, Dayon returned with a yellowish blood in the syringe and handed it to Dekapan. 

He grabbed it then aimed the needle at your shoulder as he inserted the blood into your system, your breathing calmed down a little but it was still heavy as Dekapan informed, "The blood needs to travel through her system and destroy the disease, give it some time to kick in." 

Dekapan removed the needle from your shoulder and backed away with a hopeful smile as he looked at Knight and the six zombies, "You all can stay here and watch over her until she wakes up." 

He and Dayon exited the room as Knight sat down on the floor while watching you on the bed and the six zombies were watching you as they stood, they were hoping in their hearts that this is the cure that will save you.
