(19) positions // ariana grande
positions is another skipless album from ariana. it's the proof that she has mastered this art of hers, and we're very lucky to have her among the biggest artists of our time!! 💞
the title track positions deserved its success. i know it has a generic appeal, but that's just what ariana needs to set the mood for the entire rollout. it sounds so good, but honestly, i prefer pov. i understand why it wasn't chosen as the lead single despite of its special appeal, 'cus it's not meant to escort the rest of the tracks (it's too rnb, and lead singles are most commonly "upbeat").
meanwhile, the promiscuous remix for motive that went viral gave it its well-deserved exposure. despite of how good the songs are, the album had to grow on me. when i first listened to "sweetener" & "thank u, next", i didn't need much time to know that they are skipless albums, but when it came to positions, it took me more listens.
nonetheless, i believe that it's one of ariana's best!! she didn't stray away from her usual rnb style and that's perfectly okay, since it's become her signature sound.
