17. A Severe Case Of Neglect

Jungkook resigned from the hospital a couple of months later to join the new clinic along with Taehyung. Although he was loud and clear about his professional boundaries, the older's patience and love were breaking his thick walls brick by brick.

Taehyung had made it clear from the very beginning that the younger would only work from 9 to 4, and even lesser if Jungsun needed him earlier. The older would work from 8 to 7, saying he could manage easily while hiding his own tiredness.

It didn't settle well with Jungkook. He would often protest, complaining it was unfair as the patient work was a lot over there. But Taehyung didn't budge a bit.

The clinic started with one nurse and two doctors. Six months on, they added two more nurses to their staff.

Jungkook and Taehyung were elite residents of pediatrics in SNU, so the clinic gained people's trust in no time.

On the other hand, Jungsun was beyond happy that his dada would come so early to pick him up from the daycare along with the other parents.

He was happy to not be the only child left behind anymore.

The child's happiness was obvious in his eyes whenever Jungkook would go pick him up. Long gone were the days when every evening, he would either find his toddler crying inconsolably in Jin's arms or sleeping after asking for Jungkook a hundred times.

For that reason, the younger was beyond thankful to Taehyung.

Not only that, the broken couple were beginning to come closer day by day. From exchanging basic greetings to sitting together for lunch, they were taking careful steps towards one another with time.

Jungsun had met Taehyung in SNU however, the toddler was too young to remember his face. It was this one day when Jungkook had to rush back to the clinic with Jungsun due to an emergency case, the older was officially introduced to the kid.

Jungsun wasn't particularly a fan of people in white coats and colorful scrubs, with the only exception being his dada. But the other uncle with dada had his favourite jelly beans and bluey stickers, so Taehyung made it to the toddler's favourite uncles list very soon.

The universe could sense how badly Taehyung wanted to be called Appa, and not some random uncle that worked with Jungsun's Dada. He wanted to spend all of his day and all of his life with them.

But patience was all he could practice at the moment.

And he was ready to give it all to get his family back again, completely unaware of the similar storms in Jungkook's heart that had started to rebuild its trust and love for the boy.

But life's plan was a bit different.

"No Eomma! Wanna go back home!"

With clumsily rolled edges of her shorts, a very scared five year old was on the examination table, crying and throwing her legs everywhere to dodge the vaccine.

Her father had her upper body secured in his lap, while the mother was trying to get a hold of her legs. The couple in their late 30's looked distressed and helpless, unable to think of a way to calm down their child.
