Saturday, the day of the competition arrived faster than anyone in the group anticipated. The entire group was in high spirits after the music show from the night before. Yoongi had performed his solo on the piano, bringing the audience to the first and only standing ovation of the night. The song was something he had written especially for his soulmate, something that had brought Taehyung to tears by the sheer beauty of it and the emotion behind Yoongi's performance. If there was ever any doubt that Yoongi was happy about his soulmate, it was erased with that one performance.
The afternoon of the competition found the entire group at a café, seated at a large table enjoying lunch. The poor server had a field day with their orders. Although they had tried to keep them fairly simple, it's always going to be frustrating when there are nine people to serve. Jimin and Jungkook were seated with their soulmate between them, holding bites of food to her mouth even though she had her own plate in front of her. At first she tried to brush them off, insisting she could eat her own food, but after a moment, she relented, letting her boys spoil her.
Cheyenne could sense Hoseok's nervousness from the way he tapped his hands on the table and from the way his leg bounced, the worry about his parents seeing him on the stage clear throughout his frame. Cheyenne took his hand, lacing her fingers with his. "It's going to be okay. I promise you."
Nodding at her quiet reassurance, Hoseok wrapped an arm around her shoulders, pulling her close before dropping a sweet kiss on the top of her head. "I... I know it will be, but I'm just worried about how my parents are going to react. How mad are they going to be?"
Jimin was listening to the conversation from across the table and reached out to pat Hoseok's hand. "Your parents are wonderful Hobi. They're going to understand. They love you enough to be supportive of your dreams, even if it's not their dreams." He had known Hoseok's parents since their first year of college. Hoseok had brought them all to his hometown for New Year's and Jimin had adored meeting Hoseok's parents and his sister, Dawon. They were down to earth people and Jimin was convinced that once they saw Hoseok they would be supportive. Hoseok had a raw talent that was rare and for it to not be used would be a waste.
Hoseok squeezed his hand, thankful for the kind words, hoping that Jimin was right. Hoping that his parents would show him the love for his craft that he had been craving all along, the support for his dream that he had hidden for so long. Turning to Cheyenne, he kissed her cheek, needing the quiet comfort from his beautiful soulmate, from the woman he had fallen so deeply in love with, the one who was meant for him and could understand him like no one else. He had been surprised at the speed in which their relationship progressed, moving so smoothly from just friends, to dance partners, to being so close, to having the love he had waited more than a year for. Now instead of watching his friends with wistful longing, he had the same love, the same support, the same closeness and to him, it was perfect.
Jungkook watched the smile on Hoseok's face as he stared at his Cheyenne, who was talking to his own soulmate. He had seen the sadness and envy in Hoseok's eyes as he watched friend after friend find their soulmates and fall in love and he knew it was hard, knew it was challenging for Hoseok, knew it was difficult to watch. He had experienced the same thing when Jin and Namjoon had found each other, when he thought Jimin and his own soulmate had found each other. Wrapping an arm around his girl, Jungkook reveled in the closeness of being surrounded by the ones he loved, which loved him and knew it couldn't get much better than this.
As they finished up lunch, Hoseok looked down at his watch then nudged Cheyenne. "You about ready? It's already after 3 and we need to be there by 5." Although Hoseok loved being around his friends, he wanted a quiet moment with his soulmate before heading to the university.
