Two years later...
"Cerb, come on!" I yell.
I was grabbing my purse off the counter when I felt a presence behind me. I quickly turn but when I do, a hand wraps around throat and I'm slammed into the wall. I scrunch my eyebrows in pain at the impact. I feel a knife dig into my side.
"Oh, come on," I laugh at Cerb in front of me. "You have to be sneakier than that."
I release a little of my power and sling Cerb into the opposite wall.
"I'm a Hell Hound," he groans, getting up. "I'm supposed to be able to sneak up on anyone. Including you."
"I could hear you coming. Besides, I think the training is a bit overkill now. We've been training for two years. We haven't discovered any new powers in over a year. I think we've got it all handled."
"Hecate hasn't been spotted in months. She escaped Hell 6 months ago so we have to stay on our toes." He sounds like a scolding parent. It's always "It's not safe" or "You can never be too careful". Which, to be fair, he's not wrong, but still.
In the last two years, Cerb and I discovered many things we didn't know, which is the reason we've been training every single day for two years. Lucifer had known all along what I was, he set the whole Melchom fiasco up to trick me. Acting like he didn't know. He sent Hecate to his apartment that day he was gone, hoping she'd kill me. He'd set the whole thing up from the start. Turns out, he wasn't lying about the soulmate thing, though. But we took care of that.
The part that fueled my rage the most for the last two years though, was finding out he had been behind my brothers death. He had a demon possess a man who came and shot my brother. He set it all up to make sure that I was who he thought I was. And that scream was the final answer he needed.
I turn my attention back to Cerberus. "I'm not worried about that Cerb. She's probably not after me. She got what she wanted. Him."
I hear him mutter something under his breath, causing me to bristle in aggravation.
"What did you say?"
He shook his head and walked away.
"Cerb! You know I hate when you do that!"
He open the front door and steps out into the hallway, continuing toward the elevator. Pressing the button, he leans against the wall.
"Cerberus, answer me now."
He looks at me and I know my eyes had changed, as they do when I get aggravated. Any emotion other than calm causes parts of my Hell-form take over.
"She hasn't had him," he explains. "She's still after you because he rejected her, brutally. He is vicious, now. The demons are terrified of him."
"How do you know this?" I ask, confused. He hadn't return to Hell since he followed me out. Or so I'd thought.
The elevator dings, signaling its arrival and we step onto the platform.
"I have friends on the inside."
I stay quiet as I watch the floors change on the monitor. I feel my rage start to bubble up. Images of my brother flash in my mind. Images of Lucifer ordering one of his demons to kill my brother. Dreams of him, seducing me, tricking me into believing him. They come about once a month, just enough to haunt me.
