"So, Rachel. What did you have to do to get my daughter to bring you here?" Santana's mom asked as she takes a bite of her food. Santana sends a look towards her mother, then at Rachel.
"I didn't need to do anything, Mrs Lopez. She invited me." Rachel responds as she takes a spoonful of the curry. She had to admit, Santana made a great choice with the recipe. "Although a lie about you being Vegan was brought up so I didn't feel bad." She adds, sending a grin towards Santana.
"Oh Mija." Her mother chuckles fondly. "She seemed very adamant on making sure it was good."
"Well it is amazing." Rachel admits, noticing Santana smile as she looks down at her own food.
"You're too kind, Rachel. And please, call me Maribel" Santana's mom says. "So, what's this about a duet? Santana mentioned it quickly when she dropped off the ingredients."
"We were paired together for to sing a duet for Glee. A love song." Rachel says. "The winner sings their duet at Sectionals."
"Santana has a talent for singing." Her mother states proudly, Rachel noticing Santana blushing in the corner of her eye. "She use to sing all the time when she was a little girl. Use to drive everyone crazy. But not me. I use to love hearing her sing." She laughed, then points at the piano in the corner of the dining room. "I would sit there and play any song she wanted as she danced around the living room."
"She truly has a beautiful voice, Maribel. Although I must say I've only heard it twice." Rachel states.
"Yeah, one of the times was hiding away." Santana notes, Rachel glances over with worry, but notes Santana's playful smirk, washing away the worry.
"Anyway, I've kept you two long enough. You should get started in your song! I wanna see my beautiful daughter up on the stage!" Maribel says as she clears up the table.
"Would you want a hand, Maribel?" Rachel asks.
"Nonsense, Rachel. You are a guest. You two go have fun!" She says and Santana grabs Rachel by the wrist and pulls her upstairs.
Rachel was surprised by Santana's room. She expected alot more black, but it was much like her own. Full of colour, with posters scattered across the walls. She notes the board above her desk with photos of her and the other kids from Glee. Even one of her and Finn making silly faces to the camera.
"I thought you and Finn couldn't stand each other?" Rachel asked curiously.
"We can. We just butt heads on alot of things. But I know, push come to shove, he'll be in my corner." Santana admits as she looks over at the collage of photos and smiles to herself. "Everyone would be." She adds with a degree of fondness in her voice.
"Sounds nice." Rachel admits as she stands awkwardly in the room. Santana glances over and rolls her eyes.
"Sit down, Berry." She says, pointing at the bed. Rachel nods and sits awkwardly at the end of the bed. Santana looks and shakes her head.
"You look like I've asked you to kill a dog. You can get comfortable, you know." Santana sighs, sliding into her bed as Rachel relaxes more.
"Sorry. I just didn't want to be rude." Rachel says quietly. "This is sort of the first time I've been invited over to someone's house."
"Well, you normally relax with them. They'd not invite you in if they didn't expect you to be comfortable." Santana said as she sneaks a glance over at Rachel, who was looking at the wall across from her. She could see that she was nervous. She could see her arms moving in a way that indicated that she was tapping her hands together. Something she already deduced from Glee club is what she did when she was nervous.
