Previously on be still my beating heart...
The doctor walked in with a clipboard and she jolted up out of my arms and began crying and ticking trying to get out of the hospital to Santana."Woah woah Miss, clam down please. Your safe I promise, your friend has got you nice and safe in her arms see!" The doctor said coming over hurriedly to fix her IV which made her flinch terribly.
"It's okay Brittany, shush sweetie" I said trying my best to calm her down by stroking her hair.
"Am I right in remembering that Brittany is Autistic?" The doctor asked me
"Yes she's got autism, she wouldn't normally act out, she's just finding it hard and is rightly scared and confused" I explained whilst still stroking Brittanys soft hair.
"Okay I'm going to need some backup. I'll only be a second while I just go and get her wife" the doctor left the room
Santana Lopierce, point of view
"Santana Lopierce?" A doctor popped her head out of the door to Brittanys room frantically.
I stood up out of my chair and ran to doctor Williamson.
"Doctor Doctor is she alright? Please say she's okay?"
"You're needed in here quickly!"
What was happening? Was Brittany okay?
I ran through the door behind doctor Williamson.
Quinn was sat upright and cross legged on the bed with a wriggling and restless Brittany tight in her grip.
"Is there are way you could calm her down? It's kind of urgent?"
"Oh my god- erm okay" i darted awkwardly onto the bed and sat next to Quinn. I took Brittanys hands and tried my best to calm her tics.
I did it the only way I knew and Quinn helped me to.
I'm broke but I'm happy
I'm poor but I'm kind
I'm short but I'm healthy, yeah
I'm high but I'm grounded
I'm sane but I'm overwhelmed
I'm lost but I'm hopeful, baby
What it all comes down to
What it all comes down to
Is that everything's gonna be
Fine, fine, fine
'Cause I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is giving a high five
'Cause I got one hand in my pocket
I feel the earth move under my feet
I feel the sky tumbling down (Tumbling down)
I feel my (heart start to trembling)
Whenever you're around (You're around)
What it all comes down to (What it all comes down to)
Is that everything's gonna be (quite alright)
'Cause I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is flicking a cigarette
Yeah, I got one hand in my pocket (Oo, baby)
BabyWhen we finished, Brittany was laying across us relaxed and sleepy.
"Hey Britt-Britt, you had me scared baby"
"Baby? Baby, baby..." Brittany murmured
"What are you talking about honey?" I said looking at Quinn very concerned
"We have babies..." she began
"At home. Nicky and Junie-"
"Yeah that's right, they are safe don't you worry!"
"Where are they? Who are they with? Are they here? Why aren't they here?" Brittany flustered
"Hey Britt it's okay!" Quinn started chuckling at her softly "they're with your brother, Neil. Hang on" she paused and looked at the doctor concerned "Brittany didn't hit her head did she?"
Now I was the concerned one
"We sent Britt through for an MRI scan and nothing showed up which was good, she may just be a little hazy. Is there anything that keeps her nice and calm?" The doctor said turning to me
"Normally just singing and cuddling does the trick. Now Doctor can you please tell us what's wrong?" I asked impatiently
Doctor Williamson took a seat looking solemn.
"The good news is, that Brittany didn't suffer any long term damage to any part of her body which is a Miracle. But-"
"But what?" I asked, butting in. I was on the edge of my seat now.
"We have the results back from Brittanys mystery illness test. It concludes that Brittany is suffering from an extremely rare genetic condition called Ironbark Delirium"
We sat there stunned for a few seconds
"Well what's going to happen?" I asked nervously
"This is very uncharted territory so we're not certain yet, but symptoms include: Fainting, Fatigue, Seizures, Shortness of breath, and there could be more but it's just so rare that we don't know enough about the disease"
"How rare are we talking?"
"Well. It would seem that Brittany is the only person in the world to have it" Doctor Williamson admitted sheepishly
"The only one?" I said "she can't be the only one! It's genetic"
"Yes it is genetic, but her parents haven't displayed symptoms and we can't get them over here because of the restraining order. Brittany is doing fine and that's the main thing. She will be discharged later today for a weeks rest and she should be back to normal. Put my work number in speed dial just in case though. Santana? Do you understand?"
I was in a momentary trance which I immediately snapped out of.
"Yes of course Doctor" I said bundling Britt up in her coat as Quinn helped her to stand. "She will be on complete bed rest for a week. You have my word"
"I know I do. See you soon Santana. Look after your wife for me, and don't over do it on your ankle now"
"I won't!" I shouted back. My ankle was the least of my worries.
I walked into the waiting room, supporting Brittanys right hip, Quinn supporting her other. Everyone stood up nervously when they saw us.
Mr schue ran over
"Omg Santana is she okay?"
"I'm well she is for now" I said
"What do you mean for now?"
I decided it best to have the Ironbark Delirium chat another time when Brittany was better rested and we were all a little saner than we are now.
"I'll explain at home. Let's just get hone and get to sleep"
We all left the hospital and drove home.
That day was the longest day of my whole entire life.
