"Santana I can't do it" I screamed through gritted teeth.
The pain was unbearable. It felt as if my guts were being held onto and churned around in my stomach. I was so scared. Stranded on the side of a cliff with no medical assistance remotely near us. only Santana, Quinn, The twins and Rachel were here by my side.
"You can do this Brittany! I promise everything is going to be okay. Hear me? Everything is going to be fine." Santana said in a panicked voice, sat next to me in the drivers seat. She took my hand and squeezed it tight.
"Rachel? How long is the ambulance going to be?" She shouted at Rachel, who was pacing around the patch on the side of the road on the phone to the 999 dispatcher. Rachel ran over to Santanas window which was rolled down for convenience, still talking frantically on the phone.
"How far away is the ambulance now?" Rachel asked impatiently into the phone.
"She said it's about 20 minutes away!" Rachel exclaimed
"20 minutes?!" Santana rushed impatiently. "Tell her we don't have that long!" Tears of frustration began forming in sans eyes and I summoned up all the strength I had to put my hand on hers and softly stroked it.
"I really don't think we can hold off any longer!" Rachel explained done the phone, a slight whimper of stress in her voice. The woman talked to Rachel down the phone and suddenly she rushed to Santana window again.
"Right Santana, we need to act now. The woman said if we don't start now then Brittany could die!"
Die?! I couldn't die!! I had a daughter, a son, and a fiancée, friends and a baby on the way
"Santana, please help me" i stammered in between the pain.
Santana looked to Rachel. Then to me. Then to Rachel again. She took a deep cleansing breath in, breathed out and turned to Rachel.
"Okay what do we need to do?"

Rachel put the phone on the dashboard and pressed speaker.
"Hello, can you still hear me?" The woman asked from the phone
"Yes your on speaker phone now. What should we do?" Santana asked frantically.
"Right Brittany needs to be in a kneeling position. Not slumped down but stood up on her knees."
"Should she be in the car or on the ground?" Santana said, manoeuvring herself to help me into the position.
"Where ever she is now, that way it decreases the movement and as this baby has already been halted enough, the kneeling position allows for gravity to help Brittany along"
I got onto my knees in pain, facing the back seats and clutching into the bars of the headrest.
"Okay now pull down her trousers and feel for baby's head"
Santana pulled my leggings down and felt around
"I- I can't feel it-" she stammered nervously
"Are you sure?" The woman down the phone asked "check how dilated she is"
Santana reached again, measuring how dilated I was.
"8 fingers" she said
"And you're sure you can't see or feel the head?" The woman asked nervously
" I'm sure" Santana said, feeling up there again. "What wrong with her?"
"How far along are you?" The woman asked
"She's just about 7 months" Santana said "she's not carried to full term!"
I screamed again in agony
"Brittany, do you feel like you're ready to push?" The woman asked
"I-I think so" I stammered
"Well this could be false labour but there's only one way to find out, and that's by pushing until you can see the baby's head. Got it?" The woman said "we could be here for a while as I think it is more likely that the baby is stuck as normally in false labour you don't feel the need to push"
"Okay" Santana said as I screamed out loud in pain. "Brittany, we're in for the long haul but it's okay I'm here, Quinn is here, Rachel is here and the kids are here. There's nothing to be scared about honey. We just need to push this baby out and I know that it might take a while, but it's gonna be worth it right?"
I nodded and braced myself for the next contraction.
"Here it comes Brittany" the woman said "push really hard now"
I put all of my effort into pushing my baby out but nothing.
"Anything?" The woman asked
Santana checked if the babies head was there, but it wasn't
"No I can't feel anything!" Santana panicked as I braced myself for my next contraction.
"okay we're gonna try a different position" the woman said as I pushed hard again. "If you can try and move yourself into a better position Brittany, it may help things along"
I went back to a seated position as I tried to push. Still nothing.
This continued for another half an hour. All pain, no gain.
"How long has it been?" The woman asked Santana.
"Ugh about 45 minutes since the start" she said. She was sweaty and panicked and looked like death. No offence Santana.
"Okay we'll the ambulance is here now as they've updated their position to about 2 mins away so I'm going to leave you with them. Best of luck girls!" The woman said before hanging up the phone.
"Take a rest Brittany, nothings happening right now" Quinn said, stroking my sweaty hair out of my tear streaked face.
"That's the ambulance" Rachel said as she balanced Junie on her hip and ran over to get their attention. "I'll flag them down" she said as they pulled up a few yards away
